audio sample rate captured media files not match sample rate on source tape

I have opened a new...empty...project. After initial capture, receive error: "The audio sample rate of one or more of your captured media files does not match the sample rate on your source tape. This may cause the video and audio of these media files to be out of sync. Make sure the audio sample rate of your capture preset matches the sample rate of your tape."

I have looked in User Preferences and System Settings and don't see "audio sample rate". Have searched in "Help"; found nothing. Looked in my Apple Pro Training Series book for Final Cut Express 4; cannot locate the subject.

Can you please tell me the complete pathway to change the audio sample rate; and what that rate should be (16? 24?).

Video cameras can usually shoot 12bit or 12bit audio.

If you have shot 16bit (recommended) you use the standard DV-PAL or DV-NTSC Easy Setup.

For 12bit audio use the DV-PAL (or NTSC) 32KHz setting.

For future use you should make sure your camera is set to 16bit.

The 12bit setting was there to enable users (before computer editing became widespread) to add an additional pair of audio tracks.

With FCE etc. now offering the user up to 99 audio tracks, that facility has become redundant.
