Is there an anti-glare option for new iMacs yet?

Just have a little patience. With the impending release of the new iMac just a few weeks away (they'll probably delete my post for that one), I think the odds are likely that Apple will offer a matte screen option. Glossy vs. Matte is more a fashion statement than anything else, and in the rest of the world of industrial design, matte has replaced glossy as the new "in" finish. Matte is the new look of luxury. Apple has always tried to position itself at the vanguard of fashion and style, but with the release of it's new shiny iPod Touch a few weeks ago, Apple is showing its age. Nobody wants shiny things these days, and the Touch is looking awfully dated next to other sleeker matter devices. I don't think Apple will make the same mistake two times in a row by releasing a shiny iMac.

Sorry. It was a post from someone else up above, regarding the need for Tiger. Although it is getting a bit older now, I like my Late 2006 iMac because it is Core 2 Duo (64-bit) and it can run Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard (and probably whatever big cat is next too).

I'm only posting here to express my frustration that there is no iMac available with an anti-glare option--and my frustration with Apple for not paying attention to its customers. I, too, have written to Apple more than once to beg for an anti-glare screen on the iMac, and I can tell that I am not alone. Yet, there is no indication that Apple cares.

That seems so silly to me. In every other way, the iMac is perfect for my needs, but the glossy screen on my MacBook hurts my eyes, and I do not want to repeat that experience. I would go out today and buy a new iMac if only it had an anti-glare screen.

ive sent feedback to apple - i cant stand glossy displays - berable on my nokia n97/psp but for a 27" desktop computer that ill spend hours a day staring at, i dont want unnecessary reflections.

I have the distinct impression that Apple simply doesn't care that there are a lot of people who want an iMac with a matte screen. I would go out and buy a new iMac today, if not for the glossy screen. I have a glossy screen on my MacBook, and it's so hard on my eyes, so I do know what I am talking about.

I've sent Apple feedback numerous times, and every time I am in the Apple Store, I ask whoever is helping me to explain why we have no choice, and I ask them to please get the word to Apple that there are plenty of us who want a non-glare screen. They always seem surprised, so maybe I am one of the very few, afterall.

You are not alone with your situation. I would buy two iMacs, one for me and one for my partner. We both have G5's and I am desperate to upgrade. I have the cash on hand. But I too have sent feedback and got no response. I have talked to a few surprised Apple employees, to varying responses of 1) wait as something might be around the corner 2) yeah I feel your pain, 3) the Steve Jobs standard of how customers love it, or 4) maybe I should rearrange my furniture, or cover up the sliding glass doors behind me as I sit at my computer.

The impression I get too is that Apple doesn't care either. This is probably not the case in reality, but this is the impression that is being left.

I was also disappointed there was not-reflective option for the new model iMac. I would lov to replace my iMac G5 ALS with the 27 inch i7 iMac if there were a matte display. I flew to the Sydney Apple store to check whether I could tolerate the glossy display, but the reflections are worse than ever.

The only temporary solution I could think of was to get a Mac mini, and use that with my 27 inch (matte) Dell monitor. I do not really need another notebook computer (where I can at least get matte in the two larger MacBook Pro models). Even with my original MacBook Air (nowhere near as reflective as the iMac), half the locations in my room are unusable in the daytime due to reflections. However what I would really like would be a large all in one like the iMac.
