TV Episodes Appearing Under Movies

I tried your tip and it works. I think this suggests that there is a fault with the field mapping between iTunes and Front Row, as the TV Show listing shouldn't be showing "artist" at all but evidently does. I think all we can do for now is wait for a fix from Apple. FWIW, I did an erase and install of Snow Leopard, re-created my iTunes from scratch (not from a Time Capsule backup) and I still got the problem.

Has anyone heard anything more about this? Adding the name to the Artist field resolves the issue for them not appearing correctly under TV Show but now every TV Episode is listed as an individual movie under the movies section making it impossible to navigate the front row movie section.....

This allows you to change single or multiple videos in iTunes from Movie to TV Show or vice versa. It also allows you to add TV show names.

Why can't iTunes provide this simple function?

just discovered this fault today. was looking to changing from apple tv to a mac mini because they mannaged to fk ATV imho. now i find they have fkd this too.

What's interesting to me is that I don't have ripped DVDs, but TV shows I bought from iTunes are appearing in movies (such as Air, Part 1 and Air, Part 2 from the new Stargate show). I only have iTunes TV Shows...but they appear under Movies 😟. Why is this?

Ok so his theory on front row no longer looking to itunes for media kind seems plausible and that itunes no longer writes the media kind meta tag and also the changing the meta tag using metax then re importing all the items again although laborious does actually work. The thing I don't understand is why apple have changed this in snow leopard. Clearly the system previously worked, why wouldnt this be one of the features brought up from leopard?

So I was having the same issue where media other than "movies" was showing up in Front Row under the movies category as well as in their correct categories (ie tv, music, etc). This was using 10.6.2 and Itunes 9.0.2.

I noticed the other day, that this had not been happening with all my media so I started going into the meta using iTunes to see what the differences were. There was nothing that I noticed. However, after viewing the "sorting" information tab and either pressing "next", "previous" or "okay" and then quitting itunes and going back into front row, my media began to correct it's organization. It appears that the sorting metadata needs to be updated for each file for front row to read it correctly. This occurs even with new media added. If you're worried about time, open up the first file for the show, click the sorting tab, and simply click next until you've gone through them all, then click the okay button to save the updates. My front row is now completely correct.

Not sure if you solved this yet, but I did through lots of trial and error.

1) After putting into iTunes, and finding it under its default 'Movies' section, do a 'Get Info' on your TV Show, and go to the video tab.
2) Add some garbage into the 'Description' text area (you'll remove later).
3) Go to the 'Options' tab and select the Media Kind as 'TV Show'
4) click OK
5) Find your show in the TV Shows section of iTunes.
6) Do a 'Get Info' and remove the garbage you put in in step 2.
7) Go to the 'Options' tab once again and make sure it is sill 'TV Show' - if not select again.
8) Click OK.
9) Quit iTunes
10) Open FrontRow and it will be in the right place.

I found this also happens when I add my own music videos as well - and this process works too.

It's definitely not just a Snow Leopard problem, but a new iTunes problem. I've managed to fix it quite easily, however. This is exactly the process I used: Change media kind to Podcast, delete, quit iTunes, reimport to iTunes, change media kind to TV Show, quit iTunes. It worked after that.

I'm not sure that you have to delete the media from iTunes for this to work.

Doug's Applescript (see above) does this automatically for batches of files. I just went through more than a 100 videos correcting the video type and TV show name. It would have taken hours manually.

I too have had this exact problem, how I remedied it in Leopard 10.5.8 w/iTunes 9.0.2 was to go into iTunes and force all the TV shows, (which I recorded from EyeTV none are rips from DVD's,) and select the "TV Show" option, deleted the settings file, restarted Front Row, and it worked. In Snow Leopard 10.6.2 however, this doesn't work, nothing I have tried has worked, (I can't seem to find the settings file for Front Row in Snow Leopard,) and in fact I have used MetaX on all the files to assure they are set to "TV Show" and that all the other info is correct in them as well prior to having the problem in 10.5.8, so that doesn't 100% work either. I too am in agreement that other options need to be added to this that can be controlled by the remote, such as how you want the list sorted, (I insert "Sort Show" names to all my Movies and TV Shows in iTunes to more easily sort them by that, (The Fast and The Furious, 2 Fast 2 Furious, The Fast and The Furious Tokyo Drift, and Fast and Furious for example, are more easily handled this way,) and the ability to simply turn on features such as bringing up EyeTV, Hulu Desktop, YouTube, or RSS feeds should be built-in as well without the need for using 3rd party plugins since they don't want to incorporate this capability into Front Row for some reason.

Why is the Front Row in Leopard 10.5.8 been updated to 2.1.7 and the one in Snow Leopard is stuck at 2.1?

It does. Select multiple items in iTunes, right-click, select "Get Info", ignore the warning, and then in the Options tab, check and then select the media type as "TV Shows".
