Can't delete a file with error code -43

Question

Can't delete a file with error code -43

There is a file under a folder named "Mid Atlantic Counties US␀쁟ｿ␀v"

I tried trash, rm and all ways I can find and can't delete it.

In finder, it returns error code -43

Please help!

MacErrors indicates that error to be:

fnfErr = -43, /*File not found*/

So, it appears that although the Finder might see it, it's really not there. Restart and see if that clears things up.

Tried restart and boot in safe mode, but nothing help.

Launch the Terminal app, type in the following, add a space, and then drag the file into the window:

*sudo rm*

hit the return key, enter your admin password, and hit the return key again. The file should be deleted.

BTW, which computer, OS, and are you running windows?

Many thanks for your help. Unfortunately, it did not work, and returns:

No such file or directory

I am running SL on iMc

Then, the file doesn't exist. What's the complete path to the folder? I don't have such a folder on my iMac.

If there is an illegal character in the filename, you might try deleting the enclosing folder instead (if there are other files you want to keep, just move them to a copy of the folder). You may also need to boot from the OS install disk and use *Disk Utility* to repair the disk (not repair permissions). See this macosxhints article for other ideas.

I tried to boot from DVD and repair the Disk, but not work.

The file is under a folder. The folder can be renamed, can be moved in the volume as it located in, but can't be moved to other volumes; the folder can't be copied as well. When I try to copy the folder or moved the folder to other volumes, it returns error code -36

The file can't be copied or moved out of the folder. When I try to move the file out of the folder, it returns eror code -43

It drives me crazy!

Here is what has been turned out:

L is the folder

rm -r L
rm: L/Mid Atlantic Counties US␀쁟ｿ␀v: No such file or directory
rm: L: Directory not empty

Hi Benjamin,

It sounds like some permissioning error is occuring on this particular file?

Maybe you want to try ls to list out the file/folder? Since you said that FINDER is able to locate the file. Next thing, maybe you want to do a "Get Info" on the affected folder to see if you have the necessary priviledge to delete this file....."Apple+I" key....FYI

Have you tried deleting trash as an ADMINISTRATOR? Try creating a new account then trashing should work,
