The update is HORRIBLE and problematic. I updated 2 days ago and since then I've experienced my phone not able to make/take calls or text messages but I would reboot and it would be okay, but today it wouldn't sort out and got to the point I couldnt even run any of my app's so I had to restore my phone as I couldnt use it at all. There are TONS of people posting in the forums the same issues I'm talking about so I would say to hold off or you will end up like the rest of us. Someone suggested turning the Edge off, but if you use it then it does you no good or they suggested taking your phone in and getting a new one with the updated software already on it.

I got my iphone 3Gs two days ago on Sept. 29. When I plugged it into iTunes it asked if I wanted it to upgrade to 3.1, which I did. But later on weird stuff happened like my iDisk isn't syncing with my Mac Book Pro 10.4.11 (Tiger) even though it clearly says that I'm connected and I have synced successfully via System Preferences>.Mac

I'm trying to have the iDisk icon run on my Finder screen so I can drag and drop files into my iDisk. But it says "The volume for iDisk cannot be found." It worked just fine before I got the iPhone/upgrade to 3.1. I use my iDisk a lot for school so it's important that my iDisk is on my Finder screen so I can just drag files into that and have the iDisk sync it to the apple servers so i can access the files anywhere.

When I check my Me account, the iDisk is working fine so I'm guessing it has to be my computer...

I'm also having problems with my printer which is an HP Photo Smart 3210; I've connected it wirelessly to my Apple Base Station V6.3. It keeps saying "Error while printing". I've even asked my roommate who has a Mac Book with Snow Leopard to print something out via his Mac into the printer: the print out works fine so I'm guessing it's not the Base Station nor the printer... it has to be my computer.

Here are possible scenarios as to what's causing it:
1) The iDisk app for my iPhone must be messing with iDisk. I'm going to uninstall it now just to see if that solves anything.
2) My OS Tiger is not compatible with the new iPhone 3.1... like it's messing with the settings in my computer.
3) My other apps that I downloaded must be messing with the settings on my Mac... but is that even possible for an app to act maliciously towards a laptop? I only have 10 apps aside from the ones preloaded to my iPhone 3Gs

How to solve the issues:
Before I completely Restore the iPhone to factory settings, I'm going to wait if anyone replies to my post... everything stemmed from having the iPhone sync with my mac ...

I'm new to the iPhone --- I've used it minimally since I'm getting the hang of using it (I've been reading the manual these past 2 days haha) --- and so far I don't like how it's messing with my laptop with my school work in it :-/

No problems have yet been proven for OS 3.1. The people who followed Apple's procedures to install it have had no problems.

I hate to bring your carte blanche determinations of fault under scrutiny once again, but you seem to mindlessly repeat these unhelpful statements in absence of the known facts.

In reply to one of your previous assertions that every single individual's problem post-3.1 is due to user (caused) error (specifically; not following the correct updating procedure) I provided my case as an example of A) someone who understands correct update/install procedure, and B) installed the 3.1 update according to correct procedure.

It is incredibly unhelpful to people here for you to just repeat unquantified statements, which offer no useful advice towards a problem-specific resolution whatsoever, based entirely on your personal experience that 'Apple products are wonderful because they "just work".'

In direct response to you earlier, after my consultation at the Apple Genius Bar, I explained that the Apple Genius staff were, themeselves, unable to update my iPhone and had to replace the handset. Are they, too, ignorant of correct procedure? I also reported what the Apple Genius had told me- that there is a known issue, and importantly, that my experience was not a result of anything I had, or had not, done.

Surely this is case-example enough to accept that some people, at least, may not be guilty as charged.

I hope you will take this on-baord and not post simply to put people down out-of-hand when they are looking for some usable assitance with legitimate problems that may be no fault of their own.

Today I went to the Apple store and was given a replacement phone. (refurbished actually - don't get me started on the fact that less than 90 days ago I paid for a new phone, and the replacement is a refurb!)

Anyway, it has 3.0 on it. I wish that it had 3.0.1 since that version was a security patch and it worked fine. However, I will leave my phone at 3.0 until Apple resolves this problem.

3.1 update? GOOD or BAD???
