Hi jmoss2027

A warm welcome to apple discussions. We call that an Autostart Dvd. Simply select the loop function also and that way it'll start playing as soon as it's inserted into most dvd players and computers alike. All you have to do is go into map view while in iDvd and drag and drop your video or slideshow into the very first well or box. Like this:

This is from iDVD Help:

Creating a DVD that plays automatically when it is inserted into a DVD player
You can create a DVD that consists of a single movie or slideshow that begins to play automatically when the viewer inserts the DVD into a player. Such a movie or slideshow is called an “autoplay” movie or slideshow. You can also set the movie or slideshow to loop so that it plays continuously in what is called “kiosk mode.” This is great for creating presentations to be used in a kiosk or for making simple projects that require minimum viewer interaction.
To create a looping autoplay DVD:
Open iDVD and choose “Create a New Project” in the dialog that appears.
Type a name for your project in the Save As field, and then click Create.
The iDVD window opens with a default theme selected. This theme will not appear in your final DVD because an autoplay DVD does not use a theme.
Click the Map button (shown below) to open the DVD map.
Click Media to open the Media pane, then click Photos or Movies.
Drag a movie or a photo album, or even a single image, from the Media pane to the project icon.
You can also drag images or movies stored elsewhere on your computer or a connected server.
You can use photos, movies, presentation slides (created in a program such as Keynote), or other image files in a slideshow created in iDVD. iDVD works with any image file that is supported by QuickTime (including PICT, JPEG, TIFF, and PDF.)
To turn on looping for the autoplay movie or slideshow (a single image is also considered a slideshow in this context), click the project icon and then choose Advanced > Loop Movie or Loop Slideshow.
If you added a movie with sound, the audio of the movie is retained, so the viewer hears it during autoplay.
If you added a slideshow, you can double-click the project icon to open the slideshow editor. There you can add a single audio file or a playlist as a soundtrack and set other slideshow features, such as transitions and slide duration.
Click the Preview button to see how your movie or slideshow looks.
The iDVD remote control opens, and your DVD begins to play immediately.
When you’re finished, click the Exit button on the DVD remote control to return to the iDVD window.
If you are sure your project is the way you want it, you can burn it to a DVD. When you put the final DVD into a DVD player, it begins to play immediately and will continue to play until you stop it.

Hope this resolves the issue but if not just come on back. And good luck with your project

Setting the loop function is critical if the objective is to have no user interaction with a menu. The dvd normally will play as soon as it's inserted into a typical dvd player or computer. Keep in mind the menu is actually still there on an autostart dvd that is set to loop. An actual menu adds stability in playback to the dvd.

The only way to make a dvd without any menu whatsoever is via iDvd's One Step process. This is normally done directly from the camcorder / camera via firewire.

However it is possible to burn a One Step Dvd from a movie or QT file on the desktop also. If you need instructions on exactly how this is done, go to the Help menu w/in iDvd and look up One Step.

I don't know what caused your formatting error but i do know that the "OneStep DVD" from a movie on your HD doesn't do the job properly. It will burn a dvd that plays the movie straight away when you pop it in a dvd player, but if the user happens to push on the 'menu' button then the default menu will anyway show. Even if you did it by the "OneStep" procedure you still will get a menu on your tv.
It's really a pity that Apple didn't fore see this in iMovie. It could easily be 'solved' by adding a simple black slate as one of the standard Themes in iDVD. Like this you can select the black 'menu', but you don't add any buttons or anything else, and then use the "OneStep" function. At least this way users will never see anything else then the movie or a black screen (with in the last case, pressing play or menu will start the movie again).

Let's hope Apple listens, because a generic black menu can't be so difficult to add, no?
