Just curious, but did you notice the eject problem starting to happen AFTER you upgraded to Snow Leopard? If so, there are others on the Apple Forums that have confirmed this has been a problem. I too can't burn a successful disc with iDVD 7 and OX 10.6 in either the "high quality" mode or the "professional quality" mode. Only the "Best Performance" seems to work for me.

Check ebay and amazon dot com. Here's just a few places I found using Google as the search engine:

Abe's of Maine

Buydotcom

Apple treats a dirty lens as a malfunction to be repaired by Apple if still under warranty.

True but even a new computer can experience a dirty dvd lens from lint, dust, etc. If you have applecare, and the time to ship it back, and to wait 7-10 days for repairs and retuning shipping (assuming one takes the the time and effort to ship it back to apple as opposed to driving to an authorized apple repair center) apple then has the option to replace it with a new unit, or simply open it up, troubleshoot, give it a shot of compressed air, seal the unit, test it again, and ship it right back to you.

A quality dvd lens cleaner kit from Maxell or 3M often comes in handy. I own 6 separate macs (and not all of them are currently under applecare).

Just to let you know I am still here. I ordered the Maxell dvd lens cleaner from one of the sites you recommended. I ordered it October 16th. They could not find it in the warehouse but they have confirmed this week that they sent it. I will let you know what happens after I use it. Susan
p.s. still can't burn on my macbook or my imac.

Susan...and SDMacuser

Good to read your postings. Seems I'm not crazy either....nor just being a poor learner. You see...
I'm new to Macs.....and I too am having the exact... same... problem! During last 8 min or so of burning...my laptop kicks out the DVD ⚠. Everthing is up to date. Laptop is supposedly in tip top shape---since I just got it back from Apple repair not a week ago (for bad Airport card). Anyway....I've tried to burn 5 times today...with no luck. Again...my issue is exactly like Susans. I'm using Memorex DVD+R DL. When I refreshed to "see" burn speed....I see they are 2.4x and 4x. Is there something I need to do to adjust?? (besides buying different DVDs) Frustrated. And....I even have the "manual" ⚠ [ "iMovie '09 & iDVD: The Missing Manual"]....written by David Pogue...for us simple folks. I'm doing everything "right"...according to directions/processes recommended....but keep getting the same unsatisfactory result (now...some would say that IS the definition of "crazy" !)
🙂 Standing by for any help anyone can offer (besides the clean the lens route...) Thanks. JC

Hi JC

Welcome to apple discussions. If you perform a search on this forum for Memorex Dvd's you'll see that they aren't most people's first choice of media. Yes they will work (most of the time). But it's the few times that they won't that make troubleshooting exceptionally difficult when using this particular brand of dvd's.
I strongly recommend using Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, or Maxell instead. You'll likely get better results.

I'm having the same issue, with both generic DVDs and Verbatim DVD+R DL 8x discs. Gets to the last bit "Multiplexing and burning" and then ejects the disc - without any kind of error message. The computer (MacBook Pro) then recognises the disc as blank when I put it back in. I've tried it with both large (51 mins, 123 mins) and small projects (3 mins).

The hard disk is only just over half full, with 50 GB free. Still running Leopard.

I've deleted the preferences; I've cleaned the lens.

But I haven't yet tried an external drive - I have one somewhere. Has anyone else been successful with these?
