HP LaserJet 1022 Printing Problems - Please Post Here

Sorry, I hate to create a new thread, but tracking so many different threads on this one issue is becoming problematic for me. So with that being said, if you are still having a problem with printing to a LaserJet 1022 after the full uninstall I detailed in the FAQ thread followed by installing version 2.2 of the HP driver package, then let me know here. And specifically I want to know is which device you have, how your device is connected, the print driver version, and what apps are giving you problems. In my own personal testing, here is what I have found:

USB direct connect - OK, I have yet to run into a problem here.
USB connected to an Airport Extreme N - OK, I have yet to run into a problem here.
USB connected to an Airport Express G - Paused problem. I got print job/page out and then the printer paused and would not resume. I don't have a functioning work around here yet, but I'm trying.

So if I were going to fill out my own form, it would look like this:

Printer: LaserJet 1022n
Connection: USB connected to an Airport Express G (Firmware version 6.3)
Driver Version: 1.1.0.182
Apps: All
Problem Description: Printer queue goes into a Paused mode and won't resume

And to get you started, I have left a blank template at the end of this post.

Also please make sure to include whether you have the 1022, 1022n, or 1022nw AND how it is connected to your Mac. If users of the 1020, what to chime in on this thread that is OK. Anyone else, please post in the FAQ thread or a different device specific thread. As the 1022 seems to be the most problematic at the moment, I'd like to track this down as quickly as possible.

Just trying to help.

Andrew

Just pushing this back to the top since it's still not solved and valid. Both: Apple & HP you should be ashamed of this whole story. Sad.

This printer is now several years old. Just how long do you expect HP to support this device? Until you are good and ready to buy something else? Forever?

I own a HP 1022 and I accept that time moves on. New models come out. Support isn't for life. I too am not happy about how HP has chosen to support OS X Snow Leopard. There are a number of their printers that have problems with Snow Leopard. It is not Apple's fault. They don't build HP's printers. They don't write HP driver software. Apple's documentation is available to device manufacturers so they can make their products compatible. Apple will usually work with manufacturers if asked. So this is entirely on HP's back. And they choose to support OS X only half-heartedly.

As for me I will vote with my wallet. My next printer will not be a HP product. My singular response will not change anything but if a lot of Mac users make the same decision it will get HP's attention. Money talks and bullshît walks.

I don't know if this can help, but I solved my problem (pages 1,5,9... printed when I expected 1,3,5,7,9 etc. and then all the three leds flashing on the printer panel) installing the Foomatic HP Laserjet 1022 driver.

At least for what I print mostly, it works... I can print all the odd pages and then all the even ones to have double sided printing; I know, it's more useful to have a double sided printing which is driven by software, but I was already used to "manual double sided printing" when I used Linux.

I hope my post will help at least people who experienced my problem... I don't have any clue about other kinds of issues (and I know they're several), sorry 😟

I'm still having problems.

Printer: LaserJet 1022
Connection: USB directly to computer
Driver Version: 1.3.0.261
Apps: mostly PDF printing from Preview
Problem Description: Intermittent problem with only printing every other page. Occasionally all lights flash after a print job and the printer has to be turned off and on again. When several jobs are queued up, the next job will not begin until one minute after the previous job has finished. Rarely, when the printer has to be turned off and on again, the job will be printed again after turning the printer on again, even though it has already printed. I have also seen the issue where one page is blank, but only once or twice.

I am currently in the third year of a maths and computer science degree at the University of Bristol and I am happy to help with testing.

Jada3, you are not the only one having problems with the HP Laserjet 1022. After about a year of loud protests on this forum, a year without any official reaction from either HP or Apple, angry users seem to have given up. Not one of the suggested 'solutions' on this forum gives us back what we had before Mac OS X 10.6: reliable printing and manual duplex printing. Apple's latest HP-update via Software Update is a disaster for the 1022. Manufacturers don't seem to care, I suppose they expect us to throw our 1022's out of the window and buy new stuff. If that is necessary, please give us, users of the 1022, an explanation. The way this issue has (NOT) been handled or explained makes me very angry.

I have a similar problem with my HP Color Laserjet 2600n.

Printer: HP Color Laserjet 2600n
Connection: USB connected to Airport Express Atheros 5424:2.1.14.5
Driver Version: HP Color Laserjet 2600, 1.3.0.261
Apps: all
Problem Description: Printer Queue goes into Pause Mode and won't resume printing.

Does the fact that the Printer Driver doesn't have an "n" after the 2600 mean that it is not designed for networking?

I have a HP laserjet 1022, and I'm able to get it to print reliably, and also do duplex/two-sided printing without problems.

Step 1: Select "HP1022 Gutenprint v5.2.3" as the driver (...I found that the 1.3.0.261 driver only prints one page and then cause the lights on the printer to blink)

Step 2: go to this link to download software for the "two-sided printing software" - http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-88750-2 &lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&os=219&product=5038006&sw_lang=

If link doesn't work:

a) Go to http://www.hp.com, click on "Support and drivers", tick the "download drivers and software" option and type in "two-sided printing"

b): On the results page, click on the "Two-sided printing software" option; and on the next page, click on "software & driver downloads"

c): Select "Mac OS X" as your operating system and click on "next"; then click on "drivers", then click on "HP Two-Sided Printing Software"

d): Download and install the software.

Notes:

a) To do two-sided printing, click on "PDF" and select "two-sided printing".

b) The first time you ask the printer to do a duplex print job, instructions will appear on the screen indicating the system needs to be configured.

Follow the instructions on the screen:

First, select the picture that describes where the in-tray of your HP printer is - for HP 1022, it is the third option from the left;

Second, the printer will then print a page with a square, and you'll be asked to feed the paper back in the in-tray and click "continue"; the printer will then print a triangle on the other side of the paper.

When all this is done, the system is configured and ready to do two-sided printing.

Good luck all!

I have a very similar problem that's driving me nuts. I'm getting mightily desperate, to be honest. I have to solve it for my peace of mind before I can do anything else. And that is while it's a beautiful day outside. Man, this blows. Anyways, here goes...

In the meter cupboard (if that's even a word) I have an AirPort Extreme base station (simultaneous dual band). In the living room I have an AirPort Express to which an HP Color LaserJet CP1515n is hooked up. Yesterday I decided to move the AirPort Express a little, so that I'd get better reception further back in the house. The USB cable with which the printer was connected to the AirPort Express was a tad too short to reach the new spot, so I used a different, longer cable. I also changed the AirPort Express from extending the b/g network to extending the a/n network. No big deal, I would say.

But lo and behold!

Today my printer isn't working anymore. It used to work beautifully before moving the AirPort Express. Yes, I have since tried going back to extending the b/g network. And yes, I have checked the cable. When directly hooked up to my MacBook, the printer works perfectly fine with that same cable. The cable is also fine for reliably connecting external hard drives to my MacBook. Weird, isn't it?

However, when connected to the AirPort Express the printer fails miserably. It goes into paused mode with the following message: "Unable to write print data: Broken pipe". Extremely annoying! The printer starts flashing its activity light, but nothing happens. I have, on some occasions, seen the printer software not generating this message and still not printing anything, all the while endlessly flashing its activity light. What the heck?

I'm absolutely flabbergasted that to this day no person seems to have found a universally working solution to this type of problem.

Where did this issue come from? For me, it was all working beautifully just the other day. I just don't understand! Any help is greatly appreciated.

For completeness' sake, here are some specifications:

• Computer: MacBook model 5,1 (2,4GHz C2D / 4GB RAM)

• Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6.8 (did the update today)

• Printer: HP Color LaserJet CP1515n

• Driver Version: 10.4

• Firmware Version: 20110413

• PPD File Version: 17.5

• CUPS Version: 1.4.7 (cups-218.30)
