Windows (smb) share - files disappear after complete copy

Hi community!

I have a very annoying problem with my home network. I have a windows xp pro box I use as a media player (running plex) - to copy movies/music to it from my MacBook I activated network sharing of one folder on the windows pc. I have a user set up to access this share using a password. Everything works fine - most of the time.

Sometimes when I start copying a lot of files (like 20 .avis) some of them don't make their way to the shared harddrive. I see them getting written on the windows harddisk but as the copy process from my MacBook is finished, they're getting deleted on the windows share.

I searched the forums and found some tips about using a username/password (what i did), but nothing worked for me - files keep disappearing after I copyed them to the share.

So is this a generall SL bug? Is there a workaround?

Thanks!

WHO is responsible this totally non acceptable crap? Pretty much ALL files moved to SMB shares disappear for me and then I must get them from time machine. Is it Mac os or the guys that made the NTFS-3G application? Its just pure luck I had these files on backup and we are talking about a lot of data. I love my imac but stuff like this is beyond common sense. Why in gods name does not the system verify if file exist before it remove it from original location?? Google says this issue been around for quite some time. L2, investigate already. Even if this is not a mac os problem it is damaging your reputation and hence, need to be taken care of.

This just started happening to me a few months ago... Thought i was seeing things! MOVING a large amount of files to a Windows Home Server, and only the first one made it. the rest were just.... gone.

Thought it might be the WHS so I tried an XP Machine and a Windows 7 machine, and same thing - Mac OS isn't copying the files correctly... they get deleted or something.... has there been any resolution to this rather major problem???

Just adding my voice to this really annoying and serious problem... It's disappointing that this hasn't been fixed yet. I updated when the supposed "fix" was released but still have files that go missing when copying unless I copy them inside a folder.

What's the main differences between smb and cifs out of curiousity? I tried and could connect to my Windows Home Server either way so maybe cifs is a solution?

I read somewhere if the SMB is to log into the SMB share with a username in capitol letter using the standard password.

While others have reported that if you log onto the SMB server share with the script: smb://sharename:139 . This means it will force SMB on the Mac connection to use the Windows standard SMB port of 139.

I found these possible fixes at r at MacWindows.com's reader reports.

I sure hope this helps out someone reading this post.
