External Freecom drive not recognized

Hi,

I have a couple of new external Freecom 1.5 TB USB drives, and neither is recognized by my TC (running v7.4.2). They do not show up in the disks panel of the airport utility, only the internal drive does. Nothing in the log window either.

They are recognized on my MBP, and work fine there. I have tried repartitioning them (they came as MBR, so I tried GUID and APM). I tried 1 or 2 partitions. No luck. I have another 1 TB IOmega drive that works fine on the TC, so I assume the USB port on the TC is okay.

Any suggestions? Is the TC picky on the model/brand of the external drive?

Thanks,
Ben

Try this... connect your external USB drive via USB shoe on keyboard. I had the same problem and this worked for me.

Description of problem: I used 750Gb w/ 03 partitions for backups, scratch disk and timemachine. It showed up fine on iMac core 2 and Macbook core 2. Had a problem with enclosure and bought new one. With new enclosure drive would not be recognized by iMac but worked fine with macbook. I suspected problem was with USB identity and decided to filter identification through another usb (device) thus trying diferent numbering agent. Worked just fine!!! 🙂

Holy mac! Semente, this actually works for me! A creative solution!

I've spent hours looking on the internet, but didn't expect this to be the solution. I've read some posts stating that a USB-hub would solve the problem too, I couldn't try this because I don't have a USB-hub. But the whole problem lies within the USB-identity of the external hard drive.

Anyhow... putting the keyboard between the devices works! Unforntunately it only works with an USB device with a real identity (an USB extension cable doesn't work), so you still need to get an USB-hub.

Thanks again!
