Blue Snowball USB Mic. Levels too low when recording

I'm trying to record acoustic guitar music to put on youtube. I find the volume of the audio is a fraction of what i get when i record using the same mic in garageband. I've seen many examples of people using this mic from a few feet away and it sounds amazing, but i have to get within inches of the mic for it to be audible in quicktime.

I have set the input level in the system prefs to max. Again, it is loud enough in garage band...

Are there any settings in quicktime that would boost the audio? Or maybe there is something else going on.. I can't figure it out 😟
