Early 2009 Aluminum Macbook, Mac OS X (10.6.1)
Jarry I write to trainspotter he buy like me a cable called cablesson, so I ask him if he take it back to cablesson directly or he contact first his seller on ebay ( I buy it from Ebay).
We know problem is "software" but this could be solved HARDWARE too... so we need a solution, if on warranty they change it, better.... if not wait to solve on software o do the rollback of patch (so reinstall to later version 10.6.7).
regards
Hi TigreDARK, I have sent it back to Cablesson's Oxford office, quoting my Amazon order number. Though the original Amazon vendor name wasn't Cablesson, it might have been their associated, in anycase they accepted.
I noticed there was a firmware update yesterday, hope it have solved your problem without having to reorder.
hi, i also having problem with all the problems discusses here, downgrade then upgrade also not working, yesterday, i try to display my mbp 15 10.6.8 to projector using mini display to vga seem to work. set the display as mirror. then went back to home, plug in to lcd tv with mini to hdmi 3rd party cable, walla suddenly my samsung lcd detect the signal and can mirror my desktop. but just now i try to connect again to the tv, the same error occurs again. there is not signal to the tv. maybe i messup with the mirror and extend desktop configuration. i will try again to set to mirror display with office projecter and then try again to connect to tv. will update your guys tomorrow.
Hey guys, I have been watching this thread for 2 days now and I just fixed the problem! Hopefully it will work for all you guys too because you won't believe how easy it was for me. All I had to do was buy a brand new HDMI cable and everything was fixed!! And I was certain my cable was fine because I use it with my playstation 3 all the time and it works fine but there is just something about the macbook that needs a superb cable to work (and I don't mean expensive I just mean new) Anyway here is my story...
So I bought the moshi mini-dvi to hdmi converter and had been using it for 6 months to watch all the colorado avalanche games on my big screen 47" LG using NHL gamecenter. I am using a late 2010 macbook pro 15" by the way so audio was supported. Anyways toward the end of the season I started having this dreaded problem, I would connect the mac would flash blue and then nothing. It wouldn't detect the display no matter what I did and I would have to disconnect it and reconnect it about 10-15 times before it would work. I assumed that a new software update was causing this problem and started glancing the forums for a fix but since I could still get it to go I never looked to far into it. So I did that for a few months and then I ended up with a broken TV so I just bought a new Sony Bravia HDTV and decieded to display a TV show using my macbook. This time I could never get it to work. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting 100 times and it wouldn't work. I was reading through this whole thread yesterday and tried everything from pulling on the adapter to installing that graphyx thing to switch between "Dynamic Switching" and Intel graphics or whatever. Anyways I tried asking for help in a facebook group am in for my class since the macbook pro is required for my courses and someone told me he had the same problem and he just needed to get a new HDMI cable because his had conked out. I figured there was no hope because I use my cable with my PS3 every night and it works fine but I thought what the ****. Went to wal-mart bought a cheap HDMI cable and an expensive one to test them out, and I was shocked that it worked first try with the cheap cable. I have disconected it and reconnected it a few times and everytime it has detected with no problem. I now realize that when i started having the problem I had gone home and mixed up my HDMI cable. and just now with it not detecting at all I again have mixed up my HDMI cables with the bunch I had at my parents house. So anyway long story but I thought Id share it all because I know how frustrated I was with this problem and I hope its as simple as it was for me for everyone else!
Goodluck guys!
Btw guys with a little more testing I also notice that If I remove the HDMI cable and put it back into the adapter the macbook pro will not detect the LCD HDTV but if i put the HDMI cable into the adapter first and then plug it all in it works everytime.... so far. Ill keep you posted if it conks out again but for now its holding strong.
@sky1eagle1: Happy to hear you found a solution in your situation. Unfortunately, the problem which I think many are recently encountering is indeed firmware / software introduced. In my situation I have a Mac Pro with ATI Radeon HD 5870. This adapter contains (A) Dual Link DVI and (B) Mini DisplayPort. Using Apple's own Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter. Using a Dual Link DVI cable attached to (A) I have a good signal. Attached to (B) I have a blank screen, though the monitor is recognized; including the Monitor name and its characteristics.
Cable is therefore from my perspective confirmed as fully functional, as it works from (A). There is a "chance" that the "Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapater" is defective suddenly, but when reading all of these threads I am betting it is not defective.
HOPE APPLE READS THESES THREADS.... (Prolly not - revert to filing a "help" ticket....)
ya I may have spoken too soon anyways. Its not 100% like I was hoping. But if I disconect it a reconnect it a few times eventually it goes. I tried the expensive one that I had just bought and I couldn't get anything out of that one. So from what I can tell its just trial and error with the HDMI cables for mine. But ya if you have the Monitor recognized but not working thats a whole other issue. My problem is just getting the mac to detect the TV. Once it detected I am golden.
right now nothing works for me accept using mini to vga. what should i do? to buy hdmi cable or new mini to hdmi converter ? the hdmi cable working fine, also the mini to hdmi was working fine previuosly.
If I were you I would go to wal-mart and pick up 5 different HDMI cables. Give them all a try and if you get one that works then just return the rest since they allow 90 days to do so with a reciept. It has helped me. 1 brand new HDMI wouldnt work but then another one would. Not much explanation for it but I dunno it worked for me.
Just adding my voice into the fray. Having a problem with Mini DisplayPort -> HDMI connector to external HDTV. When everything is connected I simply get a blue screen on my laptop. I've tried everything here and nothing works; it's absolutely a driver issue though, and completely the fault of Mac OS X.
Running Windows 7 with the latest Nvidia drivers for my 330M, connector works perfectly and I get pristine 720p output to my HDTV using the exact same cable and adapter.
C'mon Apple, there's no excuse for this to be a problem. Would like to see a fix, soon!
All I did was install the latest Nvidia driver for the 330m (http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-280.26-whql-driver.htm l) in Windows, reboot, and everything worked.
You can change how Windows interacts with the external display by pressing Win + P (Command + P). A little popup window will show up and you can cycle through the different options (Primary display only, mirror displays, extend display, secondary display only) by hitting Win + P repeatedly.
Works like a dream and I wish it was easier to manage how OS X works with external displays. Using -only- an exernal display is needlessly difficult using OS X on a MacBook Pro.
I have NVIDIA GeForce 320M. And same problem, can't see on TV with Cablesson adapter DVI, but I didn't use windows too... I have VMWare installed XP, but didn't use real Nvidea drivers so, didn't think can work.
I try to search if nvidea give some new drivers, but no drivers found for Snow leopard 10.6.8, so impossible to solve :_(

For everyone having this problem, try these things first: Only connect your laptop when powered by the mains. Plug the HDMI into the TV and into the Mini Displayport adaptor. Then connect to the laptop. If that doesn't work, better results have been known with high quality HDMI cables. The signal to the TV may be too weak. The boosted mains and decent HDMI cable helps it. Beyond this not working, it's back to the copyright protocols of HDMI and the Mac OS. I have had better results with the above formula.
what kind of cable/conventer are you using ? 3rd party ? previously im using 3rd party bought from ebay, china made. then the converter died. bought brand new kanex brand. http://www.kanexlive.com/mdphd10ft
then all the problem solved. maybe it quality problem. after certain time, the converter kaput. i suggest for everyones brings your mac to the nearest apple center, bring all yours existing cable or what so ever and test in front of them, or bought new cable from apple and test it. that what i do. đ. but then it cost you MONEY đ
If you're trying under Windows, can you go into the Nvida Control Panel and let me know what the driver version reads? Also, what MDP -> HDMI adapter are you using?
I am absolutely certain that a significant part of the problem is Mac OS X's drivers. Like I said, on my Spring 2010 15" MBP w/GeForce 330M it absolutely will not output to the television when I'm in OS X. If I reboot into Windows (using Boot Camp) and try, it works perfectly. If the problem has anything to do with weak signals or anything like that, Apple needs to adjust the drivers big time. It's not often that I'll say this, but it's unfortunate that display out is working so much better in Windows 7 than in Mac OS X 10.7.1.
