Mini display port to HDMI problem

I have my aluminum Macbook perfectly wired up to my 32 inch RCA HDTV. Nothing will come up on the screen, I've tried detect display, I've tried restarting the computer, unplugging and plugging back in then detect display, turned the tv of and on, but nothing is working. I am currently running Snow Leopard, but when I was on Leopard this process of attaching the TV to the computer just took about 10 minutes of doing desultory processes that I've already described. Any suggestions on how to make it work the first time?

I've tried resetting the pram and nvram on bootup, but didn't help.. Also reset the user settings on my TV..

I've restarted, resetted settings, tried to unplug cables and plugging them again.. tv and laptop reacts as usual but the TV doesn't seem to get a signal from the MacBook... Don't know where the faulty lays and if I should try with new cables or not.. but it's weird how they could "break" just overnight just laying there..

About the only thing you haven't tried (it seems) is a different cable/adaptor, and that's what I suggest you try.

As for them 'working' yesterday, well, everything works the day before it is broken, there is nothing unusual about that.

Buy different cable/adaptor, try each item individually, if no change take the new ones back for a refund.

<Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter>

I recently had a very much same experience that many people reported here. I started connecting my MacBook Pro (Early 2011 w/ Mac OSX 10.7.3) to a Sony Bravia TV two months ago. It was working fine until last week when my Mac suddenly quit connecting to the TV.

I tried almost all remedies recommended in the discussions. My issue was that System Preference of Mac OSX could no longer detect the TV automatically. Therefore "ARRANGEMENT" button became completely invisible on DISPLAY page. It seemed that my MacBook Pro was not getting the TV signals at all, and that most vulnerable hardware between my Mac and the TV was my generic (J-Tech) Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter, which was design to convert the signals between two different formats.

Tonight, I replaced the old adapter with a new adapter (KANEX iAdapt V2: Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter w/Audio Support), and it FIXED the problem immediately. In fact, the connection to the TV became smoother than before, i.e. less waiting time or flickering.

I cannot say which brand of the adapters works best or last longer. Nonetheless, it may be worthwhile to try a new adapter if anyone encounters the same issue; a sudden dead-connection syndrome..... And most important, the discussions by many people here gave me a courage to experiment one more step to solve my problem. Thank you!

Hey!

Decided to post this and add up to the already very long list of users who have trouble with the mdp-hdmi cable/adapter.

I will narrow it down as much as i can:

I have a late 2011 macbook pro 13', i5 4gb ram and a Samsung T24A550.

-Kanex cable: lasted a month

-Griffin adapter lasted 20 days aprox.

-moshi adaptar lasted 4 days

-NEW moshi adapter: went and got a new one after the last one lasted 4 days, they insisted this one was the best of them all, it has been working 4 days none stop, started to flicker when bent this morning, so i try to keep it as straight as possible. Maybe it will work until next monday? =P

So, seeing as i live in argentina i don't have as much brands available, these are pretty much it. i'll keep going back to the store for a refund it seems.

I have a 2011 macbook pro model, i currently been using MOSHI HDMI adapter until i upgraded to Lion.

Ever since the upgrade, 5 second blue screen display nothing on tv. There is a fix, i brought the griffin hdmi/dvi cable off apple and worked the second i connected it.

in other words. DONT BUY THE MOSHI ONE WORKS FOR A COUPLE MONTHS THEN INSTANT FAIL.

oooo i worked it out! i was having the same problem and was really angry after spending $60 on a cable.

if you go into your system preferences and go into displays then tick "show displays in menu bar". if you click on the display then up the top and click "turn on mirroring" then the screens will be the same. 🙂

Dear all,

I have a 2.4 Core 2 duo, mid 2010 MacBook Pro, as verified from the apple support page.

I have also checked that I should have HDMI audio output as suggested by many people on the web by checking the following, click on apple logo - about this mac - system profiler - audio(built in) - it has HDMI output on the last.

When I plug in my HDMI cable, connected with the adapter to my MBP, I click checked the "Mirror display" and followed by going to "Sound" in the system preference. I could only see, "Internal speaker" under the output tab.

The only reason I'm giving myself is because I bought a brand less 3rd party Mini display port to HDMi hence it did not support any sound from my plasma nor LCD tv.

I would like to check if my MacBook pro does really support HDMI audio before purchasing the Griffin or Moshi adapters which seems to be a pretty popular cables for video/audio output.

Mario/anyone,

I don't have arrangement mirror etc when I go to system preferences:

For display go to SYSTEM PREFERENCES, DISPLAYS, ARRANGEMENT, and CHECK BOX MIRROR DISPLAYS.

For sound go to SYSTEM PREFERENCES, SOUND, OUTPUT, and CLICK ON YOUR TV'S NAME

My TV name doesn't show up anywhere either.

just received my Kanex HDMI to MPD cable, tried turing off the Vizio and the MacBPro plugged the cable into HDMI port that my cable works thru and the one the bluray wors through.

I do have the "miniy display at the top by the "airport" thing.....

any help is appreciated.

You can get audio through the Mini DisplayPort only on a MacBook made after April 2010. With the MacBook that's the Mid 2010 model 7,1, with the MacBook Pro that's the Mid 2010 model 6,1 or later.

If you have the Mini displayPort on an earlier model you can use the Monoprice adapter which uses the USB port to get audio. http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042802 &p_id=5969&seq=1&format=2

Hi - I recently updated the firmware on my iMac (running Lion) and now it won't detect my LDC TV through the mini-display port to hdmi cable.

The TV detects a hdmi device plugged in, but recieves no signal. Plug in/plug out - reboot - on/off - wait 20 seconds - go make a cup of tea - "detect diplays", all didn't work.

Looks like this is associated with the Lion iMac firmware upgrade, as it always worked before the change. Also, I have a Mid2011 MBP running Snow Lep, and this connects with no problem.

Cheers,

PS - for Mario:

For sound go to SYSTEM PREFERENCES, SOUND, OUTPUT, and CLICK ON YOUR TV'S NAME

- there is a shorter way to do this use "alt-click" on the volume icon on your top tool bar, this brings up a list of avaliable devices that you can push the sound to.

I may have missed something here, but honestly I'm not going to sit here and read through 36 pages of posts to find out if you have fixed this problem. Here is what I did. I hope it works. And if this has already been solved, then I'll apologize and just go back to clipping my toenails
