Mini display port to HDMI problem

I have my aluminum Macbook perfectly wired up to my 32 inch RCA HDTV. Nothing will come up on the screen, I've tried detect display, I've tried restarting the computer, unplugging and plugging back in then detect display, turned the tv of and on, but nothing is working. I am currently running Snow Leopard, but when I was on Leopard this process of attaching the TV to the computer just took about 10 minutes of doing desultory processes that I've already described. Any suggestions on how to make it work the first time?

I purchased a Logix 1.5 meter cable http://www.logiix.net/product-p/mini-displayport-hdmi-2-cable.htm

and tested it before leaving the store. Horribly overpriced, but if it continues to work, I guess that's the price to pay. I still would like to see what happens with Windows installed (all the same hardware, but different OS) because that would definitely isolate the problem, but that's a project for another day.

Hey there, just happy i found this Thread. I was Searching the Internet for hours Yesterday without

finding something that helps...

I have a Macbook Pro 13" i7 2,9gh. I was working on an external Dell Ultrasharp, 23". Out of my

Thunderbolt Display Port into the DVI of the Dell always works fine in 1080p.

Now i bought an ASUS 29". So i had an older displayport to HDMI Adapter from my older Macbook

On which my son is working on (2009 MBP 13").

I took this Adapter and a 1.4 HDMI kable.

Everything was fine for about half an hour. Then the 29" went black.

So i made pram reset, put the kable out and in again,

Sometimes the picture on the 29" came back for some seconds, but then it disapeard again.

I could change resolution to 480p, 720p and 1080i.

In this resolutions the monitor works. But i eant to go with 1080p!!

With the Macbook from my son the Monitor works fine in 1080p.

Same adapter, same cable.

My Dell with its Display port to DVI works still fine in 1080p.

So i ordered another cable. On Amazon Germany here is an Adapter "thunderbolt to HDMI".

I hope this woll fix it.

What i do not understand is the result of this thread:

Is it all about the cable?

Or is it a softeare / hardware problem that could get "repaired" by a cable?

On tursday the cable will arrive, i will let you know about it.

Fu****g strange...

I have a MacBook Pro late 2011 and I was having problems also. My TV would show my computer display for a few seconds and then snow (as if it were scanning through channels). What I did was changed my display on my Mac to a 720 display and its been working.

I have a cheap mdp to hdmi I bought from Amazon.

I still can't get it to work through my reciever but it works fine straight to my TV.

I also had problems with connecting MacBookPro 15" (late 2010) with external monitor. I bought a cheap adaptor from Hong-Kong and after trying different "work arounds" now it is working on Benq 24" very good. Maybe this will be useful for someone:

In case your attached monitor is recognised in the Display (under System Preferences in OSX) but the monitor does not display anything (and just stays OFF or "No signal message") what you coud do is to manually configure the external monitor to connect to specific HDMI port where you have connected the laptop. i.e. when your laptop is ON and connected to the external monitor turn ON the external monitor and choose the proper HDMI port.

Hope it helps!

What a bummer! Mavericks came and still no fix. I am extremely disappointed in Apple. I just want to say that I've been a Mac user for years now an that I've owned several iMacs and Mac Pros. I have never experienced any problems with those machines, they stream beautifully over HDMI (using the mini displayport). Then I bought their MacBook... You would think that spending over $2,600.00 on a laptop would let you stream over HDMI with no problems, but apparently a cheap no-brand $300 computer can do what my overly expensive machine can't. Again... what a bummer! Starting to consider a laptop PC so I can make my presentations.

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to share some trouble I have been having with my Thunderbolt to HDMI and Thunderbolt to DVI adapters. Last week, my MacBook fried three of them. I ordered two more from Monoprice (part number 5311), and as of this morning, they too have been fried. What I've found is that if I have them connected when I either restart the laptop or cold boot it, it kills them. Has anyone else seen this issue?

MacBook specs: Early 2011 model 8,1. 2.7 GHz Core i7, 8 GB RAM, 250 GB Samsung SSD. Driving me crazy.

Am hoping someone can help me out.

I have been using this cable to connect my MacBook Pro to my Sony HDTV since January. Last week it was working fine on another TV in my house. I brought the laptop and cable into my room to return it to its usual position and the casing on the end that goes into the TV came apart. It then stopped working. I chalked that up to me touching or ruining the cables/bits inside.

I ordered another one last week and it simply doesn't. I figured I'd be able to pick up where I left off but when I plug the cable in the screen doesn't flash, change or anything. It has no effect on the computer. I've tried the usual things. When I select detect display nothing happened. I figured the cable was defective and ordered another one. Same problem.

Any thoughts guys? Appreciate it. (BTW, I have upgraded to Maverick, if that might make a difference).

I've got the same problem. Sometimes it works like a old-piece-of-trash car. I have to keep trying and trying many ways to detect my Panasonic TV.

I have a MBP Late 2008. And is a pain to watch anything under minidisplay-TV.

Everyday that i was tried, I did . But it took at least 20 minutes to detect the TV. Again...the same process: Turn off TV and HT. Turn on. Restart MBP. And so many possibilitites that I`ve never imagined was possible with one computer, TV and HT.

After Mavericks, nothing has changed. It's really frustrating.

If there is anybody with a solution, I really appreciate it.

Thank you all!

Okay guys here is what I did. I contacted my adapter manufacturer MOSHI and they replaced the old one with the new and it works without any problems. Just make sure you have he receipt and contact your adapter manufacturer they will fix it. Thats how I did after complaining about my macbook pro which was not the problem apparently. Good Luck!

Cheers!

Guys! I did one thing that worked that time. Maybe another clue for our issue:

In the Sound Preferences, my MBP has only the Build In Devices and one Multi Output Devices.

Then I created another Multoutput devices and changed the channel from HT to Game and back do BD channel...and it`s just DETECTED PERFECTLY!

Now I need to watch all the stuff I had buffered...then I`ll confirm if this is the way!

I am having the same issues with my macbook pro 10.8.5 since upgrading. I did the Pram and smc reset but now it won't even engage the Samsung tv. It shows the hdmi input but when I plug it in to Thunderbolt /mini display with the moshi adapter screen turns blue for a second but doesn't engage on TV. The work around before I reset the Pram and smc that Apple advised was to shut down Mac completely shut lid and restart. Now that won't even work. Does anyone have a solution yet?

Thanks in advance,

MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2.53GHz, Mid 2009)

Also having this problem since the last update. Used to connect to my Sony Bravia perfectly but now does nothing. The MBP screen flashes once, nothing happens on the TV and no other device is displayed under settings. Tried all the fixes so far to no avail. I'm using a Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter (DisplayPort Cable E301195 AWM STYLE 20276 80c 30V VW-1 PAK HENG), that worked pefectly well before, so I'm putting it down to device driver changes. Please help, Apple.
