how long should it take to copy a file from cd to hard drive

My macbook 13 inch au seems incredibly slow at reading files via the optical drive from cd or dvd. It took 10 minutes to copy 548mb file and it took 30 minutes to copy 5Gb file to desktop from a dvd. Can anybody tell me if that is normal?

Macbook 13 inch au 2gb ram 2.0ghz, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Im having the same issue with my macbook pro 13 inch. Its taking 50min to copy 5gigs from a disc to my computer. Is this normal? Would love an answer thanks.

Hi kiwao,

I think it depends on what the data is, that's causing the transfer sluggishness. For example, I have a CD that has 682 MB of data on it (.aiff files) and it took about 9 minutes to transfer from the CD to the Desktop. I have another CD with a single 526 MB file and it took a little under 8 minutes.
