Canadian iTunes Gift Card

Can someone please explain to me as to why in Canada we cannot purchase apps from the iTunes Apps Store with our iTunes Gift Card, when our neighbours to the south can?

The only way for us Canadians to purchase Apps from the Apps Store is to have a credit card.

using a Credit Card or an iTunes Gift Card is the same money is it not. Apple has our money with the gift card and they have to wait for it from a credit card?

So why is it that in Canada we cannot purchase Apps from the iTunes Apps Store with our iTunes Gift Card.

I just tried to gift a 100 dollars worth of music to someone in 3rd world Vancouver! Then I had to read fine print about how we can sell to MEXICO, europe, and the pacific rim, but not canada.

THese days, Apple iTunes excites me with their horrible on-line speeds and errors, imposing restrictions, shortsightedness...nothing in the iCloud but rain. It' s one issue after another, account lockouts for no reason support can explain, inability to retrieve previous purchase data without 15 tries...

Is apple actuall TRYING to get us to find alternatives?

On behalf of anything that might be America's fault, I apologize to our Canadian brethren up there. Perhaps when Apple is done with their scads of law suits, they'll get around to providing free trade services.

Lia - my customer support person at least tries...but I recommend he go to Amazon and help them.

Thank you I noted the dates - illustrating that the threads go back at least as far as March and there is no resolution... If i find the time, I will start a new thread. Meanwhile, until the obvious issues are resolved, I have found alternatives (through other musis providers) that work much better. that pretty much resolves it for me. best wishes for a resolution.

thanks Dave - I am not sure if mine is one of trade and tax agreements or whether apple has any control. I do know that Amazon has this ability. It may be possible that abuses of monetary systems would strip Apple of proceeds...for example, in Canada and Australia (which is allowed), where the dollar is stronger than U.S. dollar ,I could send a device there and have them populate it with far music for the value that dollar would get me here. One would think that NAFTA would account for this...according to Apple sources, I can gift immediate download music to Mexico, but not Canada.

Whatever the case - I apologize for bringing it up under a the wrong thread.

one more quick question as you apparently have some organic apple knowledge here (are you with Apple/iTunes)...

If my Canadian friend who CANNOT download music on her yahoo account WHILE in canada Travels to the Philipines (to whom we are able to gift music), can she download there on her Yahoo account (since it would go under Filipino servers?). She is going to Philipines next week and I recommended she try again to download there....

thanks in advance.

No; at least not from the Filipino iTunes Store if she has a Canadian iTunes Store account. You can only use the iTunes Store of the country in which you reside; this by demand of the content owners for reasons which have been covered in these forums on numerous occasions.

And no, no one here works for Apple; we're just fellow users. I just have knowledge about how rights work in international business having been in the music business and currently being responsible for intellectual property and copyright issues as part of my job.
