my imac g3 has an airport card. detects the router but won't connect

Hi, my imac g3 is running OS9.0.4. and I recently bought a airport card for it. The card has been detected in my mac. It also detects the router when I open the airport card icon. BUT.. when I go to connect in put in the routers pass word but my imac tells me that it's not the right password for that airport network. PLEASE HELP.

If you are using Mac OS 9, you cannot use WPA as the security protocol. WPA did not exist back in the Mac OS 9 days, so the software does not support it. You can use the older WEP security protocol on the wireless router, and that should work. Note: Most of those 802.11b AirPort cards are capable of using WPA, but only with Mac OS X.

What I would do is temporarily disable security on the router. Get the iMac connected with no security. Then enable WEP security.

Also, unless you are using 9.0.4 for some software compatibility reason, you should upgrade it to at least 9.1. You can go all the way to 9.2.2 with free updaters, but 9.1 was a solid release.

Also, Apple still maintains a web page for Mac OS 9 support.
