My last Nano (3rd gen, 8 gig) played multiple podcasts from the same source (Example: NPR talk of the nation)one after the other. My new 5th generation Nano plays one podcast, then stops. I've tried making a playlist for my daily podcasts, but it won't sync up w/ my nano. Could this be a firmware issue? Any suggestions?
For the 'not synching' issue: try naming your smart playlist something other than the name of the podcast - just label it with your own name to test it.
For the continuous play issue: try selecting all the original podcast files, press command+I, click on the Options button, then select "Part of a compilation" and choose Yes.
Only try one of these at a time, then test to confirm the result.
Firstly I think - maybe Apple so smart to separate functionality like: if I click center button only one episode will be played and if I click 'Play' button all episodes starting from selected episode will be played. Unfortunately it is NOT truth!
Apple please fix 'only one podcast per click' feature, because features like this allow me think Apple going to M$ way.
Add me to the list of having this problem. I am also one who went from a 3rd to a 5th gen nano, but my issue is I run a podcast that comes daily in 3 parts and the parts run in backwards order of 3, 2, 1. The playlist option used to work for me, but now for some reason, my playlist will not synch up to the new Nano. The playlist appears, but it is empty.

Do you have the new Nano(with video camera) as when I made an audio test playlist, it doesn't work. Each podcast is still 1 of 1 rather than 1 of X and the playlist doesn't show up in the music --> playlist, with the Genius/On-the-Go playlists, the files just appear as podcasts.
Update
I was creating a playlist in iTunes and having it sync the playlist to my Nano, didn't work. However if you right-click on the Nano icon in the iTunes sidebar it creates a playlist on the Nano and adding the files on the Nano, once synced works, 1 of X instead of 1 of 1 and continues playback.
Am going to try compilation option mentioned in the first reply to O.P., to see if it works, probably a better option than playlists.
