Calendar auto delete past events?

Past events will not delete automatically.

The iPhone is designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer for calendar events and contacts. There is an option on the iPhone to sync all events, or events 6 months back etc.

Calendar events are included with your iPhone's backup along with a lot of other data - updated by iTunes as the first step during the sync process, but it isn't a good idea to depend on your iPhone's backup alone for this data. If you don't sync this data with a supported application on your computer as designed and a problem arises that requires restoring your iPhone with iTunes and this is done from your iPhone's backup but there is a problem with the backup, this data can be lost.

I have a problem in that my 3G has deleted past events that I use for future planning. I don't sync with any applications, but there is no check box to prevent from deleting old items. Is there any way to ensure that calendar events never get deleted?

Not sure if this has any effect on this, but what is selected at Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars under the Calendars section at Sync?

Doesn't have any sync options available on the phone. Just the "New Invitation Alerts" and Time zone support. I'm completely stumped on this one.
