Silent Mode Icon?

When the phone is switched to "silent", other than the initial buzz & the bell symbol with a stroke through it being displayed (& the easily missable orange dot at the switch) I find it easy to forget you are actually switched to silent.
Would it not be possible to have a small silent icon displayed at the top of the screen in the icon area?

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.1)

There isn't an option for that. You can use the Feedback pages if you want to let Apple know.

That would likely be too confusing for an average iPhone user.

There is a red dot on the silent switch that shows it is in silent mode.

I would love to see an icon for silent mode. The switch on the side dosent really feel durable. It feels like if I use it enough, it will brake.

I think I saw the icon in firmware v2.x.x.
Why is it disabled in version 3.0.1??
