HD movie play back too fast in imovie after import

HD movie clip taken from panasonic lumix DMC-ZS3 is playing back after import to imovie at twice the speed. I've seen many post with people having this issue but no real answer. Some say upgrading to iLife 09 fix the problem while others said it didn't resolve the issue. I have iLife 08.

Can someone please help, this is really annoying.

This is the response I got from Panasonic regarding this issue:

+Thank you for your inquiry. We regret to hear that you are having+
+difficulties with you product. When attempting to view the .mov files,+
+please use the Quicktime application. In order to do any uploading or+
+editing of AVCHD files on a Macintosh the latest updated versions of+
+IMovie 08' or 09' would need to be used. Due to lack of compatibility the+
+AVCHD files cannot be recognized using standard applications in the MAC.+
+We hope this information is helpful to you. Thank you for contacting+
Panasonic.

I tried to play the clips within Quicktime and got the same result. I tried exporting the videos out of iMovie into a different format and still got the same result. The videos are still on my ZS3 and they pay perfectly on the camera but no matter what I try on the iMac, even re-importing them again off the camera, I still get the same result...video plays too fast.

Did you ever figure out how to solve this problem. I too had the same problem moving video from my Lumix (Panasonic) camera to Imovie. it worked the first time so I deleted the videos and now I have video running at twice the speed (regular speed for the audio) on I Movie. Any way to get the IMovie video to work properly?

Just picked up a Panasonic ZS3 and I am experiencing the fast playback issue with iIMovie '08.

Apple Acknowledges the issue - see link:

This website was updated June 09. Workaround is to upgrade to imovie '09.

I think before I upgrade I am going to check out the Canon SX200 IS and see if their codec has the same issue in imovie '08.

From reviews I read, Canon has more manual features vs. Panasonic, however, when shooting video I believe the Canon can only go up to 4x optical zoom.

I am also having this same issue with my Lumix DMC-ZS3. I feel like I have tried everything and it isn't working. I am waiting for my new Snow Leopard software to upgrade to iMovie '09 and hopefully this will help. Unfortunately, I have deleted my movies off my camera and only have them in iMovie at warp speed! I will repost whether or not the upgrade works sometime in the next week.
