Hi
My girlfriend just got new iPod touch 32GB. The problem is when she tries to connect to her pc (Win XP, iTunes 9), iTunes shows an error message saying "iTunes could not connect to this
iPhone because an unknown error occurred 0x8000065".
First of all, why does it says "iPhone"?
Secondly what could be the issue? I advised her to remove the iPod, close the iTunes, restart the PC and than connect it again, but it shows the same problem.
I have the same problem. After finally getting my new computer together I installed iTunes and connected my old Touch (1G 16 Gb). No problems transferring my purchases to the new computer from the iPod. All fine and done for the day. Next time I connected the iPod iTunes suggested me to update the system software of the Touch, I accepted and suddenly I have the same problem as you. "Unknown error...0x8000065".
I tried to use an older laptop with WinXP and an updated iTunes, but no luck. Thought that there could be some kind of problem with iTunes and Win7. Also tried with another profile etc, no luck.
As it worked initially with there can't be any problems with firewalls, virus protection (F-Secure) or USB-drivers. I got my problems after updating the system software. Any ideas? I have the iPod updater log if it helps, the final rows says:
This is happening to me also. After installing Windows 7-64, the sync with my Ipod freezes after a couple of songs transfers. Tried everything imaginable: Itunes reinstall, execute with compability to VIsta, energy safe mode off to USB ports/hubs, cable change, restore Ipod. I have a Acer Aspire M3641, lastest ITunes version, latest software on Ipod. Please Microsoft, Apple, Intel, whoever, WAKE UP !!! Code 0xE8000065
There is a known problem between the iPhone, the Intel p55-based motherboards, Win7 (mostly 64-bit) and iTunes. However, the iPhone and the iTouch are virtually the same OS. This is covered extensively in the following thread:
My mobo is on a Gateway GT5412 with an Intel 945 chipset. I had problems back in March when we updated to OS3 on Windows Vista Home-- it bricked my iTouch and then a second iTouch. We upgraded to Win7, it won't sync past 3 songs. We first got the "0xE80000065" error but now we get the "cannot read from or write to disk" error.
We found a "workaround" (though I don't know why it works) by minimizing iTunes during a sync and watching the iTouch screen for completion.

Update:
Problem under control for now. I went to an Apple dealer who had no problem updating the iPod. After the update I still could not connect the Touch to my i5 Win7 computer so I successfully tried my old XP laptop instead. No problem syncing there.
Of course I still wanted to use my new PC, so I found a tip about connecting the iPod, deleting the iPod USB driver and thereby enforcing a driver update and went to the new computer to try it. To my big surprise everything worked fine as soon as I connected the iPod!
I still don't have a clue of what happened but I guess that the Mac managed to install a system, the XP got it to work with a PC and finally the W7 recognized the iPod.
Try the iPod driver replacement though. Meself I'm not going to touch it while it works...
Mayday! Mayday!
I just got my *iPod Touch 32GB*. Excitely trying to start using first thing when I get home. However encounter this problem the whole day (iPod just keep showing the icon of USB & iTune). Any good help out there? Tx.
I know an obvious question (sometimes the smallest things get overlooked), but you do have iTunes installed and you are running on an account with Admin rights (not that Admin rights help)? Your USB works properly? The iPod Touch doesn't have "disk mode" like most other USB multimedia hardware/mp3 players which means you need iTunes to use your iTouch to its full abilities.
I have had an ipod touch for quite a while now and this is what i found out:
Some USB ports do not work! First of all, you need USB 2.0 and just try syncing it with all of the different USB ports on your system. I have 4 ports. I used one I've never used before to sync my ipod and it gave the error. I simply used a different port and it continued like nothing had happened.
hi, there,
i am not overly technical and for ages was running itunes 7. i have an ipod classic and an itouch and had no problems but i thought i would upgrade to itunes 9. first off, my ipod classic would not even register, the itunes would be up but not the ipod therefore i couldnt use, i tried the itouch and the same msg you got occured, it would only recognise it as an iphone but would not actually appear either. after hours/days of uninstalling/reinstalling, googling and apple support etc my partner downgraded to itunes 8 and both i pod and itouch work with no problems. saying that for some reason today my itouch is again showing the same problem i have had before - so i think i am just going to downgrade to itunes 7 again - its old but it works and does the job i want, ie music/movies etc. if you have not found a soloution i would recommend going to itunes 7. but try 8 first.
