Carrier settings file

How can I modify the carrier settings file. I have an unlocked (bought that way from the Apple shop) 3GS with a Hutchison_au.ipcc carrier settings file. This sets up a key on the phone keypad to dial their voicemail when it's pressed. I don't use voicemail (when I want to talk to a computer, I'll use a keyboard) and worse they charge 70 cents every time I hit it and I've got fat fingers. Help...

I am NOT trying to hack the iPhone; I am trying to regain control of an unlocked (Purchased that way from Apple) iPhone. According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2283, "If your carrier allows you to edit the APN settings *or if you have an authorized, unlocked iPhone*, you will see one of the following options, depending on your iPhone's operating system:". I don't see the option!!

Look, I am going overseas in two weeks and I need to re-establish that this iPhone is unlocked as it was when I purchased it. How do I do that?

What I'm saying is this, yes you have a carrier authorized unlocked phone. They are available where you live. However, even though your carrier unlocked your phone, that does not necessarily mean that they permit you to edit the APN settings. Some do, some don't. That's why you need to contact the carrier you got the phone from originally. Apple has no control over this. We are prohibited by apple's terms of use from telling you how to do so in this forum.

See hexonxonx post above.

Yes, I understand what you're saying. But, Apple is not a carrier. The phone, to be used as a phone, had to have been activated through a carrier, unlocked or not. And again, just because you have an unlocked phone, that doesn't mean the carrier you originally activated it with permits editing of the APN files. Some do, some don't. If the originally carrier permitted this, you'd be able to do so in your settings.

Quoted from the bottom of the support page you sited:

You cannot change the information in the Cellular Data Network screen unless you have an authorized, unlocked iPhone or your carrier allows editing the APN settings.

Yes - that's just what I'm saying. I DO have an authorised unlocked phone so therefore I don't need the carriers approval.

Secondly this phone was activated by APPLE not a bloody carrier. When apple activated it (the day I purchased it from apple for $1040), Apple didn't know anything about this carrier (3); the phone was activated to work with any SIM I cared to put in it and WITHOUT a carrier file. Apple down loaded that into my phone about a month later I want to REMOVE it. How do I remove it?

I'm not trying to be difficult. Fact is, on this forum we are prohibited from telling you how "hack", remove, edit, or anything else regarding your carrier file. I truly believe your phone is a legal unlocked phone. As I see it, you have two choices, 1)Contact Apple where you bought the phone, 2)Contact the carrier who's settings you want to remove. Even if I were to tell you how to alter the settings, this entire thread would be deleted before you got my response.
