Problem: Sense Key = Medium Error, Sense Code 0x73, 0x03

Pothedd's solution worked for me too! But turns out I didn't even need the Cocktail part and it must have just been a dirty laser.

I shot some aerosol dust cleaner in the dvd slot and disabled the sudden motion sensor (using Cocktail) and I successfully burned the DVD using the .iso file and Disk Utility, and a 2x speed.

BUT THEN for the **** of it...

I re-enabled the sudden motion sensor and closed Cocktail and tried burning another copy using the Video_TS folder and Toast and it was successful too.

So it turns out my laser was just dirty. But Pothedd saved me $ and time because instead of going to Best Buy to buy a DVD laser cleaner disk I just shot some aerosol can dust cleaner in the DVD slot and it worked just as well.

By the way I had previously tried that CMD OPTION+PR thing and that didn't work.


FYI, here are the details of my scenario:

-using TDK DVD-R 1-16x discs

-superdrive is a MATSHITADVD-R UJ-868

-I was getting the *Sense Key = Medium Error, Sense Code 0x73, 0x03* trying to burn a Video_TS folder in Toast and I also was unable to burn a .iso DVD file in Disk Utility.

I have exactly the same problem on my Late 2008 MacBook Pro 2.53. My optical drive is a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-868. Making coasters out of pricey DVD+R DL disks.

The same problem! I can burn DVD's and CD's but not DVD DL's! And this is since I installed Snow Leopard... Look what has happened today:

I've tried to burn a DL disc, but I get these two errors:

clave de deteccion = error del hardware
Codigo de deteccion = 0x09, 0x01
tracking servo failure

la unidad ha informado de un error
clave de deteccion = solicitud ilegal
codigo de deteccion = 0x30, 0x05
cannot write medium - incompatible format

About 13.05h (while burning the DL DVD):

System profile says i can burn only CD -R, -RW and DVD -R, -RW

Now, 13.27h:

System profile says i can burn DVD -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW

Seems like there's a software problem, don't you think?

Any suggestions? I'll go and see if a PRAM reset works!

i have the same exact problem you have.

i tried pothedd's method, it got it to burn for abour 10 seconds, then the 0x09 error came up.
