My Macbook keeps disconnecting itself from the internet

Recently, I bought a Macbook Pro in September and ever since I got it, the connection with the internet have been weird. It keeps disconnecting itself from the internet. I know it's not my router or home internet because my Touch and other laptops have a consistent connection. The Airport icon has a full bar. I can reconnect, but I have to go to Network Diagnostics constantly to connect back to the internet, only to be disconnected 10 seconds later.

Out of desperation, I figured I do a clean install of Snow Leopard (why not since my Macbook is new anyways)! The problem is still there, the Macbook is updated to Version 10.6.1. Can someone help please? Is it my network settings? Is anyone else having this problem? Ahhhh

did someone found this topic ?

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2140588

looks like the same issue.

maybe some of you did notice the following line in your console kernel.log

kernel AirPort: Link Down on en1. Reason 4 (Disassociated due to inactivity)

non Apple Access Points do kick Snow Leopard clients out for inactivity.

try a continuos ping to the Access Point IP-address.
easy by opening a terminal window and enter the following line
ping -i 10〈your Access Point IP-address〉

this will send a continuos ping to your access point every 10 seconds.

now the Access Point does recognize a Snow Leopard client as a active and will not kick it out.

most Access Point do not listen to IP-packets going trough them to mark clients as active.

if a Snow Leopard client does not address a IP-packet to the Access Point IP it will be kicked after 300 seconds.

Maybe someone got a idea how we will bring our informations to Apple.

They still do not care about users with 3rd-party Access Points.

there comes a new airport-card driver-bundle within 10.6.5.

IO80211Family.kext version 3.1.2

this airport driver-bundle got 2 updated drivers inside

AirPortAtheros21.kext version 4.2.4
AppleAirPortBrcm43224.kext version 4.2.6

Maybe we have a solution for our problem soon.

I will post my experience with the new driver-bundle within the next week.

I've been having this problem on the Mac Book Pro since Snow Leopard. My iMac is totally unaffected though all the settings are the same. My question is this: in the 13 months people have been begging for help has anybody had any response from Apple? I've thought of phoning Apple to ask what to do but if they've ignored the problem for 13 months there may be no point in talking to them.

To all the people who've been asking for help on this issue for more than a year: has anyone spoken to Apple about it? What did they say? From the look of the forum it's not an isolated or minor issue, so one would imagine that Apple would be trying to get to the bottom of it. Does anyone know if this is the case? Longhorn79 - you say that AppleCare "is no help". What did they tell you? Did they seem aweare of the problem? Did they confess they have no fix for it? I'd like to think they're on the case, but is there any indication of that? My MBP keeps deciding to use the Appl"ee" etc network though I've removed that from the list of available networks. And when I try to bring up the correct network, using the correct WPA2 password, it times out or tells me the password is incorrect. Usually it only connects after a restart or a turn off-turn on but that doesn't always work either. In fact the behavious is so random that it's driving me crazy. Meanwhile my iMac never loses its connection to the same network. Never. Ever. Grrrrr!

I spoke to Apple Care a few days after Snow Leopard was available. They suggested to bring my MacBook to the next Apple Service Provider where my MacBook did get a new Mainboard.

But the issue did still persist and I called Apple Care again. I told the service representative that I only got issues with the D-Link Access points at work and that my MacBook does work great at home with my Time Capsule. They told me to ask D-Link. D-link wasn't able to help me within the last 9 months but suggested to run Windows.

Once again I called Apple care with precise information about the issue. The representative excused himself because my MacBook now went out of warranty. He wasn't able to find anything about the issue in his database. But he told me to hope that Apple is aware about the issue and will maybe fix it within any update.

So I am pretty unsure if any developer does know about the problems.

I tried to report what I know but there is just no channel for this purpose.

The only way to force Apple Care to log this issue as known bug is that anybody does call Apple Care. They monitor all calls and as soon as they counted enough callers they will escalate the issue.
