My Macbook keeps disconnecting itself from the internet
Recently, I bought a Macbook Pro in September and ever since I got it, the connection with the internet have been weird. It keeps disconnecting itself from the internet. I know it's not my router or home internet because my Touch and other laptops have a consistent connection. The Airport icon has a full bar. I can reconnect, but I have to go to Network Diagnostics constantly to connect back to the internet, only to be disconnected 10 seconds later.
Out of desperation, I figured I do a clean install of Snow Leopard (why not since my Macbook is new anyways)! The problem is still there, the Macbook is updated to Version 10.6.1. Can someone help please? Is it my network settings? Is anyone else having this problem? Ahhhh
I was experiencing this issue as well and tried different things. But I think I finally fixed it. I ran the Keychain First Aid (Keychain Access Menu > Keychain First Aid). The verification found a problem with my shared identity. So I repaired it and the problem appears to be fixed.
By the way, I was clued into this because some applications kept asking me if I wanted to allow network access for them.
This has been happening to me on and off for about 2 months, maybe the internet will be connected properly for a half hour then I have to go through network diagnostics to get back online after it cuts off, sometimes it'll be 2 minutes or less before I have to do it again or turn airport on and off.
I have had the same problem for almost two months and I have found a solution on a dutch fanpage of Mac. My problem, and it seems its the same one most of you have, has to do with two things: ipv6 and DNS.
Once I switched off the IPv6 and changed the two DNS addresses to the following openDNS addresses my wireless connection works perfect. I suggest you try this, it only took me 2 minutes to fix this.
Turn off IPv6, do NOT change IPv4: (system preferences -> network --> Advanced - > TCP/IP)
Then go to (system preferences -> network --> Advanced - > DNS) and erase the addresses mentioned there and add he following two:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Same here. MacBook Pro Mid 2010 Core i7 / WiFi via TC 500
Internet connection brakes randomly when I'm surfing via WiFi, as long as I'm connected via Ethernet, everything is fine.
WiFi itsself is still up, TimeMachine can do backups, iTunes can stream my Music. Only the Internet connection gets lost.
Have to restart the Mac, then it works again properly.
Thanks Michele, disabling IPv6 seems to have solved the problem for me. I've been up for 24 hours now with no drops. Nice not to have a 10 foot patch cable running across my living room floor =)
I disabled iPV6 and followed your directions, however, I cannot seem to delete the previous DNS addresses. The addresses show up above the ones I added in a lighter color. I cannot highlight or delete it. I also tried the Keychain trick that Juan suggested and it found no problems. Further suggestions?
Does anyone know if there is a key board short cut to refresh AirPort as a work around for now. This is really frustrating that Apple has not fixed this issue. But at least until then the keyboard short cut would be nice.
I'm having this same issue. Very sporadic and extremely annoying...
Wondering if people are having the same issue with Airport Extreme/Time Capsule? And if it seems to be particular brands/models of routers? Which band is causing the most problems or it is both?
