My iPod Nano 5G battery life can last 9hrs+ only and Other Enquiries

Just bought this iPod on last Saturday(5 days ago) at EpiCentre Suntec City...
Was attracted to it because of up to 24 hours of music playback...
Bought it, in the end it lasts for 9hrs+ when I only played music with about 50% volume. Called the centre 2 days ago, their reply was "9 hrs is the maximum you can get for iPod Nano". Was doubtful of the answer, went to Bugis and Orchard ION's Apple Store to ask if my battery got problem and they said yes. Even I went to the Service Centre at Wheelock Place, they asked me to go to the place I bought for a replacement.

So, went down to the store today, asked for replacement, they agreed. But because of some small minor scratches, *I have to pay 15% of the price of the Nano. In the end I did not replace my iPod. Before leaving the store, this male salesperson with long hair told me this other alternative: Wait until after 14 days then register you iPod at apple's website..I asked again for reassurance as it sounded weird, he said 7 days warranty for that store only,For real Apple warranty, you have to sign up AFTER 14 days from date of purchase*. And guess what they wanted to do with this spoilt ipod? To service and sell it in store as a NEW one.

So now I'm wondering if the salesman claim is true about the warranty and that if they sold me a 2nd hand iPod Nano which others had problems with it and they return and then they sell to me.

And btw, my speaker is softer than what you hear in stores.

Can anyone help me with these issue above. Thanks alot

Wow, that store is trying to rip you off! I'd say just mail it straight to Apple. They'll test out the battery, and if it does indeed come out to only about 9 hours, then they'll most likely replace it for you. The warranty thing doesn't make sense. As long as you've registered your Ipod, it will be in warranty for a year with Apple.
Oh, and if I were you, I wouldn't buy anything from that store ever again.

First, 9 hours is not normal. You should get 24 hours or about that when playing back music. If you are playing movies and doing other things, that may reduce the time, but for normal music playback, 24 hours is what you should get.

Second, call Apple support for the real info. If you are returning a unit that has an issue, you should be able to exchange it for free.

Third, make sure you are fully charging the unit first and also run through the apple troubleshooting before you continue:

Hi, Regarding your 9 hr. iPod nano 5G battery life. I'm finding that to be quite common, or normal in general use. I think the 24 hrs. is rated ONLY if you're using the music feature and NO screen use. Just bought the 5G nano at Target. Love the iPod, but NOT the short battery life. I wish I was getting the 9 hrs. you're experiencing. Maybe after I'm done playing with all the screen features.....less the Video which I know chews up power.....I may also get 9 to 10 hours. Several friends, and the sales person at Target, who I know well and are ALL iPod and Apple 'geeks', are experiencing the very same issue.....Poor Battery Life on the 5G....so I don't think it's a "send it back" issue, as much as it's a Sales Hype issue. I'm convinced that the 24 hr. battery life is MUSIC ONLY....straight through....with NO Screen 'lights' whatsoever. My original white plastic iPod is far superior in battery life.....about 15 to 16 hours.....but it has No Screen. Regardless, I love BOTH iPods !!
