Unable to connect to AIM

Does anyone know if the AIM server is experiencing issues?
The AIM service is temporarily unavailable. Wait several minutes and try again.

G4 Power book, Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I too am having terrible trouble. I cancelled my 'me' subscription as I was told I could have ichat without having to pay £79 per year. I've tried all types of things but my Id and/or password is not being accepted.
Please help!

Created a new .mac account and now back online. Hurray!

Hi,

You can but not with an @me.com name.

This page allows you to Register a @mac.com name.
It is not an Email account (although it looks like one)

You could also register for a AIM name.

@mac.com used to be the Email/ID from the .Mac service that was a forerunner to MobileMe and this did and does allow you to use Lapsed and Trial Accounts with iChat.
