HP Scanjet 5590

I have a HP Scanjet 5590 that I've been using for years. I upgraded to Snow and now the computer says "Scanner not found" when I try to scan.

According to the HP website, if it was working before it will work after the Snow upgrade - well, it's not. They warned not to use the old driver install software if your installing for the first time, but to wait until their updated driver comes out late October.

Does anyone know how to get this up and running other than having to try to do a new install once their updated driver comes out?

PSWatson,

As Barry said, you may try re-installing, but in our testing that didn't work. If the upgrade install failed the other thing you may want to try is running HP Scan Pro under Rosetta (PPC mode). You can do this by selecting it in the finder and doing a Get Info command. Then click the checkbox Launch with Rosetta. If that doesn't work, I don't have any good alternatives until the full solution for your device is released other then taking a look at the third part application called [VueScan|http://www.hamrick.com> (although this does cost money).

Just trying to help.

Andrew

I've got the same problem. After installing Snow Leopard my hp 5590 scanner wouldn't work...I was using Vuescan.

When I can get Vuescan to open I get this message:-

+VueScan found an HP Scanjet 5590, but no HP software for this scanner was found on your system. Try downloading a driver for this scanner from www.hp.com+

Naturally I can't find a Snow Leopard driver on HP. So I guess we're all going to have to wait.....or buy a new scanner. If I have to do that you can bet it won't be an HP.

I had the same problem, but my 5590p drivers was installed before I upgrade to Snow leopard. The driver was no moe working with snow leopard, but after the Apple 10.6.2. update, the old drivers started to work. I use Acrobat 9 and I am scanning through the interface of Acrobat using the VIA driver. This may help waiting HP is finally releasing the new "clean" drivers.

I am in the same boat as the other respondents.

Two things have become very clear in my over 25 years of Mac ownership. Never upgrade to a new Mac OS for at least 9 months. One year is better. While there is always the cool eye candy if a product is not made by Apple it most certainly will not be supported.

People forget that Apple is not in the business industry; they are in the entertainment industry. Steve Jobs made that abundantly clear. Second, don't expect any third party to have support ready for Apple releases. Apple is a great company but other companies are kept pretty much in the dark. They only see snippets until the actual OS is released. Then they have to scramble to play catch up.

HP should at least have the decency to apologize and update their release/upgrade schedule.

Sorry, but that's just nonsense. All developers, including myself, have been in the position of receiving great support prior the release of Snow Leopard. Also, most other manufacturers had their products ready. HP could have started with the development of Snow Leopard one year ahead easily, it's just a matter of priority and resource allocation. Developing new products generates more income cash flow than does spending time on supporting old ones. I'm sure HP exactly calculated the financial loss of frustrating the customers that they're asking for their understanding now, and they decided to keep them on low priority.

So don't blame Apple, they really did everything to make the transition as smooth as possible. It's the result of decisions of ignorant individuals that puts the obstacles in your way. And Apple not being in the business industry is just laughable. I know more small businesses relying on Apple products than on any other companies' products. And they usually go well with that.

Cheers,

Jazz

Hey Andrew, we need a few more shallow promises as to when the drivers will be released. A refund check would be nice for Christmas. It would help me pay for the new Canon Printer/scanner I just bought. **** they even had the update online.

For heavens sake, just tell us the truth....when or not ever.....just the truth and please take that ridiculous schedule posted on your website as it is out of date and insulting....it is now December and what you promised in September has not been delivered.

Ok guys, today is Wednesday December 9, 2009. I have been waiting two months for those incomps @ HP to update the software for the Scanjet 5590.

Given the time of the year, I have decided to rid myself of things that aren't working for me. So today I am trashing this scanner and purchasing another one from a truly Mac supported company (a Canon?). That's unfortunate, because I really liked this scanner (when the software worked). But I can't wait forever HP. I guess I can add your promises to those old stand-bys:

1. "The check is in the mail."
2. "I'm from the government and I'm here to help."
3. "I won't * ** ** mouth."
4. "The Scanjet 5590 software update for Snow Leopard will be available in 'Late October'. "

Merry Christmas everyone! (and HP, good riddance..........I'll never buy another one of your products again, but I will be buying more Apple common stock......).

Happy New Year Everyone!

At least the year is new, the HP Snow Leopard drivers aren't.

HP website still says the update will available late Oct. 09. Honestly, *** is going on with HP. Either make the driver ready when you say it will be or don't promise something you can't follow through on. I feel like I'm being spat on here. I found away to use it, but I have to hook it up to my Vista laptop everytime then send the files I scan over to my iMac so I can email them out as that is where Entourage is (my email program).

What would it take to update the website to a real expected date of release?
