Beach Ball of Death?

What the heck is up with Safari? It beach balls on me constantly, sometimes terminally. Currently going on about 5 minutes (posting this from Firefox) and I don't want to force quit because I will lose a bunch of work. Running latest Snow Leopard on new Macbook Pro.

@DavidRea: If you are still having the problem, post your crash report so we can see it. You can also create a new User account on your Mac and test for this problem with Safari there. If it happens there, it is a systemwide issue.

@Everyone else: The link to download the Flash uninstaller is http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html?promoid=DTEGO

Do not try to install a version 9; only install the latest version, then Repair Disk Permissions and restart Safari to see if the problem continues. Your problems may be entirely different than the OP, so you should all start your own thread with details of your problem, along with what you've tried so far to resolve it, and the results. Continuing to post in this thread is threadjacking, and it will only lead to your problems being ignored in deference to the OP.

Yeah I'm sure I speak for everyone who's experiencing this problem that this still has not been resolved.
I've tried everything mentioned in all forums. Nothing helps.

I'm pretty sure it's flash related. The beach ball seems to appear whenever I'm on page with flash heavy content. Furthermore, it happens with both safari and firefox which means it's not the browsers.

It's most probably down to the latest flash player and SL not combining.

On the other hand, my girlfriend just bought the latest MacBook pro with SL preinstalled on it. All works fine. <headscratch>

Has anybody figured this out?

I think the problem is with how Safari 4.0.3 manages memory. The only thing that helps is Empty Cache. I feel that I have to do that way too often.

If I've looked at several sites, even going through Bookmarks is quite sluggish.

The problem is not my computer. I can view a YouTube video with Firefox and it's fine, but choppy using Safari.

If I knew how to go to an earlier version of Safari, I'd do it in a second.

Hello everyone (sorry for my English).

If never experienced any problem with the beach ball until I upgraded to 10.6.2. From this moment I couldn't work with the laptop because of the constant lags. Surfin the web and these discussion forums I found that someone solved similar problems by reseting the PROM of the laptop.

I've tried and it also worked for me. Maybe it could also work for you. To reset the PROM, restart the laptop and press the Command Option+PR keys for a few seconds. The laptop will reboot again. Release the keys and wait for the system to reboot.

Hope it helps. Best regards and good luck.

For the vast majority of users, this is caused by the presence of old Flash plugins in your system. Why this should matter, I don't know, to me if you're running Safari, it should correctly identify the latest version of the plugin and select it, ignoring all others, but that's just not the case. Follow the directions previously posted. Here are updated URLs for the (1) Uninstall and (2) Reinstall:
