21.5'' iMac - Screen Noise

I just bought and received a new 21.5'' iMac and love it but the screen is making a high pitched noise, similar to a dog whistle. It's that sound that isn't loud but pierces through your brain. And the brighter the backlight is, the louder is gets.

What do you guys think? I love this machine but I don't think it should be doing this and it bothers the heck out of me. Maybe a call to Apple is in order?

Got mine back today from service (aka repair). LED dimmer board and screen were changed. To no avail 😟 Still making the whining noise, maybe even loader than before - I can't tell because I had to wait for over 3 weeks to come to this point.
The new LCD has less of backlight leaking but also has a wider spread yellow tinge, but of a "your wife won't recognize" intensity.
The guys from the shop told me, they could try to exchange again, but I should be glad that I got a panel "that good" at all. While at first deniing ever to have heard of yellow screens, it's now supposed to be "the way the 21-inchers are".

I got myself "armed" with AppleCare now and will possibly try an exchange later. Very sorry I spent the money with Apple at all, best experience of it all was the service of the small dealership I had the thing for repair. At least they were friendly and even called me (weekly) on status of my mac (not granted in Germany).

Thnks for reading my whining 🙂

Ok my first 12.5 NVidia iMac Week 45 had Yellow & Flicker.
My second got here 2 days ago.
Yellow Tinge but more Left to Right, rather than top to bottom like the old one.
But unless I look at the Grey Bar test, I cannot notice it in any Application.
All else is perfect. No Dead Pixels, No Screen Noise and No Superdrive Scratching Discs.
No Flicker so far. But my other iMac took 5 days for that to start. So I'm crossing my fingers.
If it does not Flicker, I'm keeping this one.
Reported the Yellow with new Case # for this iMac to Apple Tech via Phone.
This may be wrong place to post this but I had 2 with No Screen Noise.

I first posted here Nov 25 and said I would wait a few weeks and then go to my local Apple Store. Did this a couple of days ago. Treated very well indeed. Even in the noisy store the genius could hear the difference between my machine and an in store one. Consulted their knowledge base, had a word with manager and said straight away - "we want to swap it". Powered up the new one to listen to it and agreed it was definitely quieter, although if you put your ear to the top left hand corner you could still hear a whistle. Took it home satisfied, but slightly apprehensive. So at home, whistle can still be heard if you strain your ear for it. Certainly if this had been my first machine it would not have been a worry. However, immediately noticed that screen 'colour' was warmer and sure enough there is some of the yellow tinge problem, principally bottom right hand corner. Additionally can now hear a low hum, which I guess is fan noise. On balance, am I better off now than I was before - jury is still out - it's very 50/50. I really don't want to turn into a perfectionist nerd, but I think I may be going back again!

I know I don't have Screen Noise but I wanted to Post this Here anyway. It may help some!

Update: Just got a phone call from Apple. Basically he looked at my Pictures I had sent via email & confirmed there was indeed a Color Variance on my Screen. He basically & very honestly told me this is just a follow up phone call to get more info from me. He then told me Apple does not currently have a fix. They are working on it. He also said, the they were told they may have a fix in 3 weeks. He also said it could take longer. When I asked why Apple never tried a firmware fix for the 21" iMac. He said, at the time we did not know the 21" had a problem. But we do now. I told him I just don't want to keep swapping out iMacs, only to get another faulty one. He completely understood & agreed. He said he or someone else will get back to me when there is a definite fix. He was polite, professional & empathetic to my situation. Bottom line is he was honest. They don't have a fix yet! So I will wait patiently. I feel better now. I also made a joke & said, if it's not fixed for 6 Months, will they upgrade me to the future Model iMac. He laughed & said, No, it will be resolved by then.

So just make sure you report it & get a Case #. If you have to, email the Tech a .wav file of the Noise your Screen is making.
