21.5'' iMac - Screen Noise

I just bought and received a new 21.5'' iMac and love it but the screen is making a high pitched noise, similar to a dog whistle. It's that sound that isn't loud but pierces through your brain. And the brighter the backlight is, the louder is gets.

What do you guys think? I love this machine but I don't think it should be doing this and it bothers the heck out of me. Maybe a call to Apple is in order?

I brought mine in yesterday for the same problem and the genius said that they were going to replace the power supply to see if it will fix it, still waiting for the results. Do you think this will be the fix or do you think they will end up replacing the whole computer?

Either way, hope you're having better luck then me and please keep us updated.

I am experiencing the high pitched whine at all brightness levels( worst at 0% - 90%) Its very annoying if I'm trying to study with no music in the evening time.

Apart from this I am loving the iMac.

I think we (in this thread) are the minority of mac buyers who are bothered by this whine as it seem to affect most machines.

I will log the complaint with apple support as I only bought the iMac in December.

It would be great if they could alter the frequency of the whine in a future software update that take the sound beyond the human hearing range.
