Magic Mouse swipe stopped working

Everything else works fine - zoom, scroll, etc.. Two finger swipe worked great yesterday for navigation. Just stopped working today. And, yes, I did check that Swipe is enabled in Mouse Preferences.
I did installed couple of new SW since yesterday ( iWorks, Skype.. ) so wondering if it's SW issue or HW defect?

Anyone else had the same problem?

PS - I did called support number , but they put me on hold forever.....

Geoy, in this case it could be an hardware problem. The swipe problem is slightly different, because the scroll keeps working, and this means that the sensor is perfectly able to detect fingers.

By the way, I think that "a blank piece of white paper" is not a good choice for checking your mouse: if the pattern of the paper is too "flat", the optical sensor inside the mouse is not able to detect movements. The surface of a wooden desk could be more appropriate. If you still cannot move the mouse, then you may want to call Apple and ask them.

Agreed. Logging out and in every time I want to go back a page is a tad irritating.

Wonder what background service is responsible for the 'swipe' function of the trackpad and mouse? Perhaps this service can be stopped and relaunched to see if it solves the problem?

Also - is it possible to unmark this question as solved? It isn't solved yet!

That's not really a question for this thread, but here are the full system requirements:

* Mac computer with Bluetooth wireless technology
* Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0* or Mac OS X v10.6.1 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0
* Existing keyboard and mouse for setup
* Two AA batteries (included)

I to had the same problem. Though I logged into another account that was already set up on my computer. It worked on that account but when I logged back in to mine the 2 finger gesture still did not work. The solution is odd and difficult to find but through the help of Apple Care it was found in some obsecure discussion thread.

Click your Macintosh HD, then under places select your user name. Look for the file named Library, click on Library then click on preferences and then you are looking for 2 extensions

1) com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.mouse.plist
2) com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse.plist

Move both of these to your trash folders. That is it and your 2 finger swipe shall return.

Thanks for this hint; I have only 1) com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.mouse.plist in my preferences folder...
When swipe won't work that file was empty; I've trashed it and restarted and now the file is no more empty but contain various keys; two seems to be referred to swipe gestures:
- MouseHorizontalScroll boolean checked
- MouseHorizontalSwipe number 2

I'll keep a good copy of this file in case swipe stop working again 🙂
