Magic Mouse swipe stopped working

Everything else works fine - zoom, scroll, etc.. Two finger swipe worked great yesterday for navigation. Just stopped working today. And, yes, I did check that Swipe is enabled in Mouse Preferences.
I did installed couple of new SW since yesterday ( iWorks, Skype.. ) so wondering if it's SW issue or HW defect?

Anyone else had the same problem?

PS - I did called support number , but they put me on hold forever.....

HI

The problem that i am having is the magic mouse pointer erratically jumps/glitches reguarly. It's not the tracking speed, that's fine, its the pointer behaving erratically.

Sometimes the mouse will be smooth for a few minutes then it's constantly glitching.

Apparently the problem is the bluetooth antenna in some mac pros. Thats what i read on here, it says that the antenna for the bluetooth in the mac pro can't always connect perfectly with the mouse - hence a glitchy jumpy mouse.

What i find weird though is that my bluetooth keyboard is always fine.

Anyone have any ideas or solutions that may help?

Many Thanks

Well, i have found the problem once and for all - i had to rewire my bluetooth and airport connectors in the bottom of my mac pro.

I was reading article saying that on a lot of the mac pros the wiring was labelled wrong, it would still work but was a weak signal, so i followed this guys diagram and instructions on how to rewire them correctly, and sure enough everything is perfect now.

There were like a thousand other people on this thread i was reading that did exactly the same thing (all mac pro owners) and it worked for every one of them.

Still dissapointed that after spending that much money on a mac that i had to go in and rewire it myself.

it seems the larger apple are becoming the more and more sluggish they are getting on some things, not everything, but some aspects of their game have slipped.
(and i'm not just talking about the wiring of mac pros)

Hope that helps anyone

I found a permanent solution to the loss of swipe functionality.

I upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard the suggested way originally and had the same loss of swiping periodically.

I too found that logging out and back in solved the problem, but only temporarily.

Two weeks ago I backed up to Time Machine, booted up the Snow Leopard install disc, erased the primary drive on my iMac with Disk Utility, then did a clean/fresh install of Snow Leopard.

I transferred all my settings/apps/etc from the Time Machine backup and voila! - loss of swipe functionality as completely gone away.

Previously I'd lose it nearly every day, two weeks straight without any problems.

Seems like other things are running better too with less spinning beach balls and it seems quite a bit faster.

Obviously a fix from Apple would be preferable to doing a clean install (and the risks associated with it), but I was glad to find it solved the problem.

Solving the problem of the 2 finger mouse swipe, often happens after applying an update.
Updates can cause Disk Permissions to be mixed up, fixing these is done by using the Disk Utility and executing the Repair Disk Permission option on your Macintosh HD.
In general it is a good tip to run this option after applying any update.

Check it out and see whether this helps bringing your swipe functionality back.
Deleting the driver files and rebooting your system, means that the driver file will be recreated during systen start up, fixing the file permission.
