Must unplug/replug monitor to work

Hi,

Had my 23" Cinema HD monitor for some months now and have not had any problems until now.

It won't come on when I turn my Power Mac on. I have to unplug either the AC or DC cord from the power adapter and then plug it in again for the display to come on? If I turn the display off, I need to do this again. It also switches itself off when a screensaver kicks in or sometimes when I change the brightness level.

Any one shed any light on this please? Sounds like the power adapter is playing up. I've tried plugging the monitor into a PC too with similar results, so I don't think it's the graphics card.

Thanks.

I just bought a new 20'' adc display and I have the same problem. When I've installed no problem, but after reset the computer (or turn it off) the display won't turn on again.
I've noticed that If I try to push the button "detect displays" on display preferences has the same effect.

Don't know what to do, the display works, but it's annoying to unplug it every time to use it.

I have had my 23" Cinema Display for about 2 months. It worked perfectly until recently and then it went completely black. AppleCare didn't have any resolutions so I took it to an Authorized Service Provider. They plugged my display in at the store and it worked fine. When I brought it home it worked fine for 2 days, then it went black again. I have unplugged and plugged it in so many times I can't count. I have only got it to come back on once in the past few days.

I also use a 17" display connected to the ADC port on the same graphics cards as my 23" display, it works perfectly.

From what I am reading is the problem with the AC Power Adapter or with the display itself? Suggestions and advice are much appreciated.

My 20" Alu display, which is only about 2 months old just had the same problem.
Power light was lit, usb mouse working, but no image on the display.

Ran through all the usual display detection things; sleeping the powerbook, restarting, shutting down, resetting the pram etc.

I only found out about this problem when i came to the forum, doesn't seem to be mentioned in the support database, which should be the very least that Apple do. It should definitely be in here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=34593

My display is still not working correctly. Apple refuse to take it in for service. I haven't had time to take it to a Service Provider or Apple Centre yet as I am too busy at work. It sounds like they wouldn't be able to give me any answers anyway. I will try and go next week though if I can.

Everyone that's posted appears to have different video cards, so I can't really see that this is the problem?

Some are reporting that their LED light stays on. This is not the case with mine. I sometimes see the light come on briefly when I power the Mac on, otherwise it never lights up as it used to when the screen was asleep.

If my display or Power Mac goes to sleep then there is no way for me to get the screen back on. I have to turn the computer off and then do the unplug/replug thing again after I turn the Mac on again.

Interesting to hear there are so many with similar issues. Surely a software update hasn't caused this? Is it the power brick or the monitor itself? To me it's as if the display is struggling to get enough power to come on. Once on though, it is fine.

Hope there is a solution to this and that these power adapters aren't as fragile as I'm beginning to think they are.

Siggi -

My display seems to be misbehaving exactly as yours is. Seems that the display (or power adaptor) doesn't 'see' the video signal from the powered-up system, and needs reminding (by replugging the power adaptor) that it has to start up. This operation usually works for me (sometimes takes 2 or 3 goes), but recently the display has also been shutting off (video and led) after only a few seconds of operation.

Also, I have found that if I leave the power adaptor unplugged when the system is shut-down, then connect it before I boot the G5 next time, the unit starts and operates as it is supposed to. Don't know if this is a 'reliable' temp fix or not - but at least I can get some work done.

Apple now has my 23" Display, so I will post their results once I find out.

I have the exact same issue that you are having, I get the LED to on briefly when I boot up, but then it goes off. The display never gets a signal, except for a couple of odd times. From what I can gather, it distinctly seems to be a problem with power adapter.

My situation is slightly different: monitor, and everything worked fine for months (it's an ACD 23" on a MacMini), then a few weeks ago had a software update and ever since then it has been blinking. It's extremely frustrating, and has made the computer unusable (I'm writing from a windoze machine right now) - the monitor literally blinks to black every two seconds or so, stays that way for a few seconds, then goes back to working for a few more seconds, and keeps repeating this cycle CONSTANTLY.

I don't want to switch back to windoze...help! Anyone? HELP!
