Keyboard shortcut to add .com and .net to URL?

Hi all. I'm switching back from Firefox to Safari 4, since FF is getting kinda sluggish. FF had a couple of great keyboard shortcuts for adding .com and .net to a partial URL that you may type in the address bar.
• Typing "apple" into the address bar and pressing Cmd-Enter resulted in loading "http://www.apple.com/".
• Typing "apple" into the address bar and pressing Shift-Enter resulted in loading "http://www.apple.net/".

Is there an equivalent in Safari? I'm aware that typing "apple" and pressing Enter will automatically add the "http://www." and ".com/", but this trick doesn't work if the address doesn't begin with "www.", as in "mail.google.com". Is there perhaps an add-on that will do this for me?

This is the reason I haven't been using safari. Like you, I gave up FF, and tried Chrome, but as it is not safe enough I am willing to use Safari. But I am tired of writing these. I always tap cmd+return, old habits =) than I open a new tab, which doesn't work for me. Also safari for windows has these shortcuts, my friends with windos use these without problem!
