Quicktime X alongside Quicktime 7?

When I try to install Quicktime 7, I get an error - it won't allow me to install it because Quicktime X is already installed. I tried from the download, and I also tried from disk, but Quicktime 7 is not on my install disk.

Please provide instructions on how to install Quicktime 7. thank you!

That's already been covered in posts below, Elisabeth, but again:

If QuickTime 7 Player didn't get moved to the Utilities folder automatically, you can install it separately. Insert the Snow Leopard install disk, go to the Optional Installs folder and run the Optional Installs.mpkg. You'll be able to select to install QuickTime 7 (it actually installs only the Player) from there.

If you don't have your Snow Leopard install disk handy, you can download QuickTime 7 Player for Snow Leopard here:

Right, but I'm saying that 1) Quicktime 7 is NOT in my optional install folder on my Leopard disk and 2) when I try to install from the download it doesn't let me. The error is: "Quicktime can't be installed on this disk. This version of Quicktime 7 can't be installed on this disk because Quicktime X is already present."

So.... what do I do?

Try the Snow Leopard disk.

What do you have, Leopard which is Mac OS X 10.5, or Snow Leopard which is Mac OS X 10.6? If you have Snow Leopard, then you need to use that version's disk. There will be an Optional Installs folder and an Optional Installs package (.mpkg). Run that and one of the choices will be QuickTime 7.

The only download you can use is the one I linked to. The standard QuickTime installer will not work on Snow Leopard.

Yes, thank you! I got the new download from the link you pointed to (didn't realize it was a different download from the one I had, sorry) and that worked.

I do have Snow Leopard, and for some reason, Quicktime doesn't appear to be on the disk. But, no matter, I have it now.

I had freaked at the discovery that Quicktime had absolutely NO Pro features - and I don't agree that they are there, for free, where is DivX and Sheer and On2 and DV-PAL etc. etc.? - so I was very relieved to read about installing from the SL install disc.
I used Pacifist to install QT 7 and lo and behold, it installed it in Utility folder but when I opened it, it even remembered my previous "Recent Movies" and yes there are Preferences and they include all the things it used to include, like the numbers for Pro Reg.
When I opened a movie from the Recent list I found that I could now Export using any of the plethora of codecs one expects to find in QT Pro (along with the purchased extras).
So, don't despair.

Thank you Dave Sawyer, Your link saved me, it is the QT 7.6.3 version http://support.apple.com/kb/DL923, it worked in one click and resolved my problem. I was unable to download the QT 7.6.4, the system keep saying "QuickTime can't be installed on this disk. This version of QuickTime 7 can't be installed on this disk because QuickTime X is already present. Please use Software Update to install the appropriate version of QuickTime for your Mac." I have tried hard to get rid of all QT X components from my machine, and I used the AppZapp to uninstall the QT X but it didn't work, this QT 7.6.3 worked as a charm, the logic says that it should recognize what QT 7.6.4 did but it didn't, the QT 7.6.3 Pro is working with no problem.
