iTunes with Windows 7

I too have Windows 7 and can I say what a nightmare! I feel like I've reinstalled Windows Vista. So far my incompatible issues have been limited to Apple products and anything to do with security, fire walls and anti virus programs. I'm going to try this XP mode and I will let you know if I have any luck. If you get there before me, please email me at <removed>. I will do the same if I can come up with a fix. Also the Home Share program does not work and did not work even before Windows 7 though. I had an XP and Vista machine, with Vista on wireless. Error 3259 and I had no firewalls set up. Hmph! Well I feel like a kid again with all these things going wrong, mysteries to solve and overdose on aspirin!

The only thing that's been giving me problems with Windows 7 is iTunes.

If you are unlucky enough to a) own an HP computer and b) have nVidia graphics you are out of luck with iTunes. The combination of nVidia and HP is the problem. I have another desktop with an Epox board and Gigabyte nVidia graphics with the nVidia Win 7 driver and iTunes is working fine. This desktop is also a full year older than the HP laptop. I also have a 4 year old Acer laptop with ATI graphics and iTunes works just fine. Go figure.

HP is being REAL supportive of Windows 7. I have a dv2845se and HP says that Windows 7 is an unsupported OS.

The nVidia site says that the HP driver is proprietary and you have to get it from HP who doesn't have one for Win 7. The odd thing is that the nVidia driver downloaded for Win 7 updates is a later driver than the the 64 bit Vista driver on the HP site. I am waiting for HP to finally tell me that I need to buy a new laptop if I want Win 7...

The problem is HP + nVidia and NOT Apple.

I too am having problems with Windows 7 64-bit and iTunes x64 (both v.9.0.1 and 9.0.2). I get the same behaviour with either version.

When I install, I get the : " Warning: 1946 Property 'System.App UserModel.ID' for shortcut 'iTunes.ink' could not be set" error message, even though I am running the installation as Administrator (that is, I right clicked on the executable and selected "Run as Administrator").

When I actually start the program, I get the same thing everytime:
- First, a progress bar that says "Please Wait While Windows Configures iTunes"
- Next, the prompt asking whether or not I want the program to make changes to my computer
- And then, a message that says iTunes has been set to run in compatibility mode - even though it has not been

After that, the program runs - but I go through this routine EVERY time I start iTunes.

And I am NOT running an HP machine, although I do have an nVidia graphics card.

I have an HP Pavilion Slimline with Nvidia graphics. Prior to upgrading from Vista to Windows 7, I ran the latest Windows 7 upgrade advisor. Regarding iTunes, the recommendation was to 1) De-authorize machine 2) Un-install iTunes 3) Perform the upgrade 4) Re-install iTunes and re-authorize machine.

This seemed to work, as I had no problems or errors starting iTunes. Not sure what to suggest for the problems you guys are having, except to uninstall Windows 7 and do what I did. The info at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971762 might help in that case.

I did however have a problem syncing with my iPod Touch. I was able to determine that Windows 7 installed an MTP driver (generic MP3 player driver) instead of the Apple iPod Touch driver. One I installed the correct driver, I was able to sync again.

I'm not sure what Nvidia graphics hardware and drivers have to do with not being able to run iTunes. I think it's a coincidence.

I think the problem some of you are having is with Windows 7 64-bit version. It has been reported that iTunes does not work well with the 64 bit install. My wife has iTunes9 running on her Dell laptop with 32-bit Win 7 and no problems.

I have iTunes9 on Win XP and experienced the "cdrom" loss and driver error messages. Fixed with the regedit patch that deletes upper and lower filter limits for Gear, but now get missing driver errors when I start iTunes. However, it still rips CD's just fine, after ok'ing the message. Haven't tried to burn one yet, though -- been busy filling up my new iPod Nano 5th gen 16 GB!

Are you all running 64-bit Windows 7? I've seen other reports of iTunes problems with that version. My wife is running it with 32-bit Windows 7 and has no problems at all.

To the guy thinking of running it in an XP partition, you'll probably run into the XP driver bug doing that. Your CD rom disappears, and the only way to get it back is to edit the registry and remove the filter limits for the Gear drivers. When you do this, after you reboot the optical drive comes back, but you'll start getting "missing driver" messages from iTunes!

However, if you can live with the message every time you start iTunes in XP, just OK it and everything seems to work fine after that. I just ripped about 50 albums into my new Nano and had no trouble at all.

Update to the post above -- not quite "everything" works, actually. Itunes can rip a CD just fine, but won't burn one. Gets something like "no cd writing software installed". Other CD software on the same machine won't burn, either.

If I uninstall iTunes, reload the drivers, then other burner software works fine. Reinstall itunes, and the drive disappears again....grrr!

Anybody found a way to get it ALL working?

I have Windows 7 32 bit and it works just fine. actually fixed a LOT of my problems i was having with other programs. I didn't really start having issues with ITUNES until i installed the newest version. It's so glichy and freezes on me constantly!

It's still a lil slow but it's deffently better. my main problem is that all the music that i had downloaded before hand no longer has track names it all comes up as "download" anyone know how to fix this?

iTunes will not run. "The folder iTunes cannot be found or created...." is the error. I have tried to delete the SC file and that seemed to work but iTunes again returned the same error. iTunes tells me the folder should be in the Music folder that I did create without luck.

Windows 7 32 bit.

iTunes is the only app that hasn't worked well for me.

Burns CD's just fine but the CD's will not play anywhere. This is not a DRM issue, I copy the exact same music files to another PC on XP and burn a CD and it works fine.

Also when I play music through iTunes its all scratchy and fuzzy. When I play the files using VLC they work fine.

I just bought an HP Pavillion, with Windows 7 and the only problem that I have with the iTunes software, is that I cannot Sync my iPod up to the new PC. The iTunes software (64-bit) and the PC seem to be compatible, with the exception of sync-ing. Any ideas?

Wow.. I logged on here to get help with iTunes/Windows 7 and I find my problems are small potatoes compared to the rest of you.

The only problem I'm having is iTunes will act like it being started for the first time EVERY time I start it. Otherwise, my music, library, store and syncing work just fine, as if I'm still using Win XP.

I guess I can wait until a 64-bit iTunes for Win7 comes down the pipe...

I've been having nightmares to say the least.

Couldn't connect to my old library, had to import all my old media. Now I'm trying to import playlists. Taking an hour to import a 103K playlist txt file. RIDICULUOUS!!!

Hey everyone I had iTunes on my home computer and it died anyway it had all my music etc. On it and now I bought a toshiba satellite and put the upgrade for windows 7 on there and now I can't even get iTunes to open on there what can I do?? Aldo will I be able to put music on my iPods since they ere registered to my oldcomputer?
