iTunes and Bonjour capable NAS box

iTunes and Bonjour capable NAS box

I have an IcyBox IB-NAS4220-B which is Bonjour compatible.

I have enabled this feature on the NAS box and immediately iTunes finds the box and connects to it.

When I click within iTunes on this device, it displays absolutely nothing whatsoever even though there is substantial content there.

I can disconnect iTunes from the device and reconnect it but still no content is diaplayed within iTunes.

I have hunted through iTunes config and cannot find anything that alludes to this at all.

Is there something more I need to do?

What I am expecting when clicking on this device within iTunes is to see the content of the drive. Admittedly I am only expecting to see iTunes compatible media of which there is many.

It has the items "Explore" and "Disconnect".

Explore simply opens a new iTunes window with nothing in it and Disconnect disconnects the drive, allowing me to reconnect.

I am wondering if my expectations of this are incorrect though.

Am I right in assuming that it should allow me to see and play the contents of the NAS box?

That looks like a really cool device. I read http://gdgt.com/raidsonic/icy-box/ib-nas4220-b/review/207/ which states it only works with MP3's. If you have any MP3's you might try to validate this statement.

I also read that a "Twonky Media" install needs to take place to share the media. It looks like a 30-day install is on the NAS installation media. http://icrontic.com/articles//tagan-icybox-ib-nas4220-b-review/3

The drive contains video media and about 3000+ MP3's.

They are all in a folder structure rather than in the root of the share which I would hope is not a problem.

I was under the impression Twonky was to other devices that Bonjour is to iTunes?

Okay, this one has been bothering me. I just read in the device manual there needs to be a "public" share created and a "music" directory within it. Copy your music there and see if you can see it in iTunes.

Shame it does not do other media or allow a short cut from the public folder to my main music archive but, it is very workable indeed.

Awesome! I'm glad it worked for you. It would be cool I it did movies too. I wonder if it would work if you had a "movies" directory atthe same level as "music"
