Yellow tinge from bottom to top of the screen, 27" iMac

My 27" is showing a yellow tinge when viewing on the bottom of the screen compared to the top?
This makes color corrections on my photos impossible. Anyone else has this problem? You can easily
see it on white or grey background (even in finder windows)

Meirssv,

Yes, looks like a week nine! That should be interesting, I hope above hope that it's ok, it will definitely be the newest one we have seen, so you will have to let us know how it goes!

At one point I had ordered a quad online, and the delivery date went from a week initially to almost a month, so I cancelled it. I guess it all depends on where it came from.

My week eight was mellow yellow so I'm returning it tonight. After four of these things, I'm not going to hassle with it anymore, I'm just going to return it. I'm getting really good at packing and unpacking these babies!

Just to let you know , i receive my third iMac i7 this week ( shangai week 08) and it's yellow as a lemon....
As my two first one , i'll ship this nonsense back to Apple ( gonna probably be sold without any modification to some unfortunate one who won't care or won't notice )
going to a refund this time.
I take the Gizmodo statement with a grain of salt since no one else have corroborate this news...
3 iMac out of 3.
Hard to do worse....

This is exactly what I was afraid might begin to happen. Good luck with getting your situation resolved.

I had a week 48 27" iMac which had the yellow defect. After I had my local Apple store replace the screen, it became an iMac with a yellow screen complete with a new flashing/flickering feature. It went back to Apple on Feb 23rd for a refund.

I will be watching this forum with great interest in the days to come, as I'd love nothing more than to see this issue resolved so I can re-purchase. Yellow screen aside, it's a wonderful machine, but for >$2k, I expect that screen to be everything advertised and that includes color uniformity. I will be resisting the urge to order another until I've seen a goodly number of "clean" reports.

I got my replacement last Monday. It's a week 07 machine. The most surprise me is the label: it showed Assembled in USA! I haven't seen this on computer product for a while. Almost all are made in China.

However, the computer is still having the yellow tint problem. Other than that, the glass has a crack too! I happened to use my flashlight, otherwise, I probably won't even see that. It looks like a scratch. But when I use a flashlight, I noticed the crack is started from the other side of the glass. It started showing up on the surface.

Of course, the vendor is sending out a replacement to me. I will keep my finger crossed. If the problem remains on the upcoming replacement. I will return mine and waits till Apple fixed the problem.

Just as an FYI, my 4th iMac (5th screen) will be arriving Monday. It will be a week 9. I will report on it as soon as I unbox it and boot it up. Here are my screens so far:

1 (new machine, dec, week ukn): Flickering, tinge
2 (new machine, feb, week 5): Tinge, grey bar at bottom
3 (screen swap): Tinge, grey bar at bottom
4 (week 8): Horrible tinge, grey bar at bottom, giant piece of dust under glass
5 (week 9): ???

I'm not excited anymore by the week number increment.

There's nothing magic in it, except our desperate need of believing that something has at last moved at .

IF the yellow issue had been officially recognized AND a target date for its fix had been officially released THEN I'd also be extremely excited about finally seeing that date (and its week number) appear on my calendar.

But since both hypothesis above have proven to be false, I see no reason why next week should be better than this one. (Actually, seeing so many weeks passed without any significant improvement makes me more and more skeptical about the existence of a solution to come)

Let's continue to exchange precious information and to monitor the situation on "our" side.

After all, the existence of these Discussion Groups is probably the most positive aspect of all this incredible story (ironically, I have to thank  for that).

"They call me Mellow Yellow,
Quite rightly. ...."
by Donovan, 1967 🙂

For your technical information, another song by Apple.

The Patent 2009/0135583 granted to Apple - May 28 2009- details the new technology using 'thermally and structurally integrated distributed LED tile matrix backlight light source'.

Item # 0012 points that 'another challenge with utilizing LEDS in large arrays is maintaining uniformity of color in the large numbers of LEDs.'

Looks like a big sandwich, or a super 'Big iMac' !

Cheers!

I purchased my i5 at a local Apple store the first day it was available in my area (early nov. 2009). I have been using my original iMac till today when I decided to check my unit for the yellow tint issue. After reading the article at Gizmodo and using their test image and also creating my own test image, I determined my unit was suspiciously exhibiting the yellow tint behavior.

I called Applecare and a representative had me check my build, display adapter ROM level, etc and my call got escalated up to a manager. The manager said my unit needs "repair" and that they wanted to schedule me with a Mac Genius in my area. Three hours later I was at the Genius bar and the Genius immediately told me they had "identified" an issue with the display panels. I was to leave my unit at the store (which was fine by me) and parts were going to be ordered today for immediate replacement. I ask what was going to be replaced and they said the whole display panel. They said they would call me in a few days for me to pickup my unit.

I am happy with Apple's service and I hope things will work out for me with whatever they figured out. My fear like many of you here was that I was going to be given a new unit out the door only to have the same issue once I powered up at home. I'm crossing my fingers and I will let everyone know my result in a few days.

Hi people,

yesterday I bought my 21,5 iMac at an apple premium reseller in Rome.

As I got home, I checked for dead pixels and other main flaws, but found none.

I was afraid to run the "yellow tinge test", as I had a feeling I coud find out mine was affected too.

However, to be honest it felt like I had gotten lucky and my iMac was almost perfect!

When I got home last night though, I decided to "play" a bit with the new iToy and came across the yellow tinge test pages...

Well from that moment on, as soon as I look at the bottom right corner of the screen (when there is a white background) I see a yellowish colour...

I have posted some pics taken with my camera - sorry if the quality is not the greatest. Could you have a look and tell me what you guys think?

Thanks.
