Yellow tinge from bottom to top of the screen, 27" iMac

My 27" is showing a yellow tinge when viewing on the bottom of the screen compared to the top?
This makes color corrections on my photos impossible. Anyone else has this problem? You can easily
see it on white or grey background (even in finder windows)

Thanks Dino. I'm glad to see Apple is responding, but if I understand correctly, it took a while. We've seen that happen before, but it usually pans out pretty well. I created the Apple Time Capsule Memorial Register last October:

...and Apple is replacing failing Time Capsules now, just like they're (hopefully) fixing the yellowish screens.
I'd love to see people posting their results after their screen has been repaired. Is there already proof of that this works? (I know, I have to read up on this thread better)

Very interesting indeed!

If this is the case, how can you avoid different parts of the screen being exposed to different temperatures in an "all-in-one" (at least without a complete re-design)?

But I still have some doubt about this hypothesis: being each pixel composed of three (RGB) LEDs, if all of them emit less light the result is a very light grey instead of pure white, but still a neutral color.

Since we observe a color shift (towards yellow) that means that the balance between the three RGB components is altered, as if some LED colours were more sensitive to temperature changes than others. Can this be the case?

PaoloS,

That's close IMO:

See point #0013 of the US Patent 2009/0135583 that I posted earlier (regarding Apple's Display LED backlighted system).

http://files.me.com/jacques.laporte/uv9ymb

The color of each LED depends on temperature and "difficulties in providing proper thermal management capabilities *can readily lead to temperature variations across the distributed array of LED light sources .... such non-uniformities lead to unacceptable variations in color from one portion of the screen to another*"

Bottom Bar is Darker Shade with a Hint of Yellow. But what you have to ask yourself is, do you see any Yellow or difference in the Screen when you have Safari Opened Full Screen (entire Screen)? Or in any other Apps like Finder, etc...If you don't & your not a Photographer or Graphic Artist, you'll probably be fine. For instance mine has a Color Variance with Grey Bars Up but in all my Apps, I can't see anything different side to side & up & down on my Screen. So I'm keeping mine. I had 2 iMacs Previous, where I actually saw the Yellow is several places on screen. I could not live with THAT. I just kept looking at the Yellow spots until it drove me crazy & I exchanged them. 🙂

Here are more Tapplox LCD screen test pics "a la Dino" ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/faxao/sets/72157623410938691/).

Both of them have been shot RAW with a Nikon D300 and a Nikkor 50mm 1:1.8 lens mount (pretty good lens) and then converted into JPEG.

There is certainly some degree of color variance that, IMHO, is way more visible looking at the pics rather than looking at the screen with my eyes.

This tinge saga has been discussed thoroughly in this thread and I guess that now that Apple itself (finally) has recognized the problem we can be sure that whenever a solution will be found (most likely a new LCD panel provider....) we are all entitled to have our screen replaced by Apple Support service.

Take care

Today I went back to the Apple Premium Reseller and after 1,5 hrs in the Repair section of the store, they decided that my iMac had a screen issue and offered to keep it for a day, waiting for Apple's reply on it, as they don't have any official info from Apple on this issue yet.

It's probably because my screen is a 21,5 and it's more common with 27'' ones.

Anyway, the new one has exactly the same issue: on a white background you can see a yellowish halo.

This is a result of a test:

This is how bad it looks with a grey background...

In addition to all of this, it suffers from backlight bleeding (my old one did not).

I really want to return it and have my money back. Too bad things like these are not that easy in my country (Italy).
How does Apple usually behave in situations like this, for purchases made at an actual shop (for online purchases there should be no problems)?
Does the fact that it is an Apple Premium Reseller (and not an Apple Store) make a difference?

faxao, just like Mine! Darker Right Side & Bottom Grey Bar! After seeing most pictures, I would say MOST have the defect in those same 2 areas. As far as Apple finally getting a handle on this. I see no indication of any Hope coming our way. When people are still getting Week 09's & new Screen replacements, worse than their last, I don't see how you can call that a progression in the right direction. I think we are worse off than we ever were. Until I see Perfect Screens posted & less defect posts, I cannot be optimistic. I've been here a long time. Many have come & gone. Some got good screen replacements or screens that were more acceptable & just gave up the good fight.
