Yellow tinge from bottom to top of the screen, 27" iMac

My 27" is showing a yellow tinge when viewing on the bottom of the screen compared to the top?
This makes color corrections on my photos impossible. Anyone else has this problem? You can easily
see it on white or grey background (even in finder windows)

I did get one. The third iMac (man that sounds insane) had its screen replaced. When I went to pick it up I started it up and tested the screen and it was what I would consider to be a perfect screen. It had a Slight color change from top to bottom but no yellow streaking or blooming of any sort. It was just slightly warmer near the bottom which is what I would expect from a screen in this class but 100% acceptable.

However, when I booted it up I wasn't able to connect the Bluetooth mouse or keyboard to it. I had to resort to a USB mouse to test it. It turned out that they had damaged the Bluetooth antenna during the installation of the new screen. Apparently, it’s all integrated in the motherboard so once it went it was not an easy fix.

At that point, I had work to do so (I work in IT and without a computer at home it’s a pain) I had to take the best week 5 unit they had ready to go. I thought I could live with the minor streaking on it but it got on my nerves after a while. So I called Apple and they assured me they had a week 9 unit which they had inspected and had a screen that was streak free.
So I picked up that unit and the problem is so bad on this unit it’s actually a joke considering it was checked. So I am returning the unit and they are replacing the screen while I wait. If the screen is not acceptable I am just going to get a refund and walk away from Apple.

I just wish there was another Mac I could switch to but it looks like I will be going to an i7 Dell Vostro 430 and their version of the 27” screen. That is one of the reasons I have been trying to make this iMac thing work as the alternative is not what I want for my personal or professional work. On the Mac I can run Windows and OSX on the Dell I give up OSX plus the easy access to the Unix command prompt (a hugh plus in my work). The Quad Core Mac Pro is just too expensive to be a realistic option for me and the Mini is just too slow.

just an update on my iMac experience. I returned it today and asked for a refund. This will be processed in the next week and hopefully I will soon have my money back...

Too bad though - i loved the idea of an imac - it could be that I am a little jinxed, however, the last one i received, I could not connect to the wi-fi network at my place (the iphone and other laptops could without any problem...)

I always have parallels up running Windows with a couple of windows applications and as a test environment. So that right away eats away one core. At some points I actually have multiple virtual machines running. Then I usually have a large number of other applications open in OSX. Prior to this I had a MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz with 4 GB of ram and an upgraded 7200 RPM drive and it was easily overburdened with the load I placed on it. The i5/7 has been perfect for me and it’s the minimum in my opinion of what I need to have a quick and responsive work flow.

Yes different Users throughout this Thread. I just love having my main Desktop Machine with all my Peripherals hooked in & ready to roll. But I'm not on the run as much as you guys & when I am, I still have my old & trusty iBook G4! Go ahead Laugh! 🙂
But for Internet Surfing, email & eversince I put Leopard on it, it runs great! I will probably upgrade to at least a Macbook at some point, but no worries right now. Sorry for off topic!

Didn't find the reference to the factory .. but here's the fellow selling it. The 27" one I can't find anymore. This is for the 30"

Conversion rate is right around $630 now. You got to be crazy to buy this. Dell's selling for $1100 which is just slightly more attractive than this. Like Jacques said, Apple's different coz' of the patent. But just comparing screen size, resolution, Dell is the closest. I don't think you can find any other from legit sources in US.

So, $1100 from Dell w/ no computer builtin, or $1700 for a C2D iMac. $600 for a computer running OSX would be considered a bargain.

Perhaps folks who are really bothered by the mellow yellow can buy the Dell and deal with whatever issues the Dell monitor might have. I hear their customer support is top notch! :P

Hi Hamproof,

I see your point. If I buy a Dell monitor I'd buy the 24" for sure, it's almost half the prince for just 3 inches less. Also I consider the 27" too expensive.

Let's see what happens on the 16th this month. If nothing comes up I will go for the iMac. However, I don't think Apple is going to reduce the price of the Mac Pro, but we never know!.

Actually, the size is secondary to the resolution. Going from 1920 to 2560 is a big deal. More so than the 3".

Take for example folks who buy the everyday HP, Compaq, Dell, Toshiba etc vs say the Thinkpad T61p (since replaced w/ a different models). Most folks don't even look at the screen resolution. They look at the screen size and never wonder why Thinkpad cost more. The reason is (other than the solidly built chassis), they have an option to get 1920 resolution. 1920 on a 15 or 17 LCD is a big deal. That's why Macbook Pro 17" cost a lot of money also.

Anyway, a comment about the ultimate display. Well, BMW claims their cars are the ultimate driving machine as well. It is certainly far from the truth, but in their segment, it is probably true considering their competition.

Fact of the matter is, in the all-in-one category, no one has anything to compete w/ Apple in the 27" segment.

That's true, but it's also true that most PC comes with double configuration(base) in components comparing to the iMac, like 2GB Ram, 2TB HD, 1GB GPU, BlueRay, etc.

The screen is the main difference and what makes the iMac more attractive. Ironically, this part is the one causing a lot of fuss, that's why we're in this and other threads posting. So that says a lot IMO.

Whatever, I know I'm going to end up buying a Mac for sure, that's what I want I'm not coming back to Windows. I just want to make sure I'm going to get what I pay for, a reliable machine.
