Yellow tinge from bottom to top of the screen, 27" iMac

My 27" is showing a yellow tinge when viewing on the bottom of the screen compared to the top?
This makes color corrections on my photos impossible. Anyone else has this problem? You can easily
see it on white or grey background (even in finder windows)

I totally feel your pain man, I would remind you that the dell 27 inch is the same LG screen only that its not LED backlit, its CCFL backlit, but there is another problem with that kind of backlit its not as bright, and there's tend to ting on the bluish, magenta type, but hey if you do go for that machine I definitely would love to hear your story on that screen, because definitely we all want to know if it is just that LG is being a slacker on manufacturing this type of Panel, with this type of resolution, and screen dimension, although the screen is going to cost you about what the iMac cost, or correct me if I am wrong. I will check the dell page, but I wish you luck MRG I wish you get this iMac solved man.

I do realize it’s the same LG panel with a different backlight. It does have its considerations but CCFL is a very proven technology. The screen does have a higher stated color gamut which I assume must have something to do with the backlight.

Basically a customized i7 Vostro 430 and the screen (1249.00 CDN) work out to $2099.00 (CDN). So basically the same price I paid for the iMac i5 27". It’s not the route I want to go though 😟

yes Ham, but you see this panel is CCFL and plus it doesn't have a glass panel, and its matted. But anyway yes these panels are never ever going to be perfect, I would love to see a Dell Panel here with the Dino test, none would be perfect.

My friend who works in the pre press industry has two Eizo, both are worth in the 1500 dollar and 2000 dollar range, and he did the test in front of me the squeak one and the dino one, and guess what his has a greyish cast on all four corners, plus it goes into a kind of bluish cast on both top and bottom almost making the grey bars look in a colder tone. I mean these monitors are freaking amazing they dont look as sharp as the iMac one thats for sure, but in color, they are perfect when it comes to the test, but of coarse bluish tones. I also have to take into consideration the calibration they have so something different. Someone mention that the iMac monitor are 300 bucks or 600 bucks I have to say that is a negative these monitor are within the 1000 to 1200, that taking the cost of the parts put into this machine, you guys have to understand that the parts for massive production like the i7 and i5 would be cheaper for apple instead for us, the logic board is completely design by apple, made by apple, the only thing put into this logic board is the GPU chip and the processor chip into the socket.

Apple has to make some money, someone of coarse they would not be in business, even if you own a business you would see that you make a profit. The screen on this iMac 27 inch may go for apple into the 900 and 1000
21.5 maybe the 600 to 900 bucks, but apple must get a break if LG was to sell us this monitor they probably would give it to us for the same price they give it to apple maybe a little bit more. But so far I feel all you guys debate, for real, I have to agree with Jac, he is on the dime, if not happy with it on sight first time you get it, get a refund because none these monitors are going to be perfect, not even the Eizo 2000 grand monitor was perfect, and my friend definitely is living large with it and he has it connected to a Mac Mini on one and a Mac pro on the other.

definitely I understand you point, I definitely wish you get a satisfied acceptable iMac, but the CCFL would be more acceptable to anyone eye's and I believe if you do get it theres is going to be a ting there, but hey you could always send the **** dell back to **** and then come back to the iMac and plus you get two OS and get to use unix also. I wish you luck on this iMac your getting fix.

I have been following all of these threads since November ready to pull the trigger on an i7. Unfortunately I have not seen enough evidence in the posts that gives me a "warm and fuzzy" about dropping $2k.

I will continue to read and continue to hope that things will be taken care of (happy to see the flicker is essentially gone)...

Thanks for all of you that post meaningful information regarding your issues and experiences. Really makes these forums useful to people like me.

And the yellow tinge (color, shade, touch, hint, streak, or whatever else you want to call it) sage continues.

I sent an email to Apple Corp. last week and mentioned my disappointment with my 1st and replacement iMac i7. Elaborated somewhat on my history with the Mac, starting back in the late 80's. I closed by saying I will always be a Mac user, but never had let down until this iMac.

I did not say I wanted a "another" replacement, or a refund, or to give me some kind of perk.

The very next day someone from Corp. called and was very nice and apologetic. Well they did do a replacement and is letting me keep this one until the other arrives. But here's the thing…

That was last Friday and so far nothing has come about. Nothing has shipped yet, I haven't received and email or no indication of the whereabouts of my replacement. Strange.

On my second replacement, it was immediately ordered and I received it on the following Tuesday.

--- NEWS FLASH! NEWS FLASH! ----

As I was typing this I got a call from Corp. They said they ordered a new computer but Apple is taking it through a rigorous testing to make sure all is up to par. I specifically asked if it was a refurbished and they said no. They just want to make sure I get a great computer.

What's your thoughts on this?

Thats what Apple Customer Relations told me. That they hand picked my iMac. I have to say mine is perfect until it gets the Grey Bar Test. When I told her it still was not perfect, she said my next option would be a Screen replacement, not an exchange. I kept mine & I'm happy with it. Unfortunately, I don't think their rigorous Testing, does not include the Grey Bar Test. I would just say a little prayer & cross my fingers. Good Luck!

I've been a long time user of Macs - I've pretty much never owned a PC since my father started toying around with an Apple IIe in the mid 1980s. Since then, we've probably gone through nearly 20 different models, starting with the Mac SE all the way to a newer Macbook Pro

I'm not a fan boy - I've only ever used Macs because it's the only system I've ever known.

However, the state of the refurb 21.5 iMac I got from Apple the other day is simply unacceptable. Take a look at these shots:

I decided it was finally time to upgrade to an Intel Mac desktop and replace the G5 I've been working on for the last 8 years - however, my crappy 17-inch ADC monitor makes the new iMac look shameful. 8 years and the colours are as bright as ever, while this state-of-the-art display looks like someone's been smoking inside it.

I've put up with some crappy quality products from Apple in the past - Graphite G3 iMac with a failed harddrive, ibook charger that consistently broke apart, etc. This really takes the cake though.

Anyways, for those who think Apple is "testing" its refurb units to the fullest extent, think again. They're probably offloading the affected units via their refurb store.

i have the same problem,
first i got a iMac with a screen full of stuck pixels and see-through tiny little wholes and slight tinge/
Second one has substantial yellow tinge as you have.
Unacceptable IMO for the price.
Feel sorry for Apple, but they should have set a recall, as Toyota did.

Did anyone benefit from the panel replacement or i should try this "lottery" one more time?

Mar 4, 2010 8:58 PM in response to ilya emilianov

My panel was replaced and the problem was still there. Worse! That was about a month ago. I thought I'd give it another go since the DVD drive was intermittently not working and the screen developed "liver spots and lines." Shooting for a new one next week but not a lot of folks have come back here saying their replacement was a good one. Hopefully, more will soon.
