Yellow tinge from bottom to top of the screen, 27" iMac

My 27" is showing a yellow tinge when viewing on the bottom of the screen compared to the top?
This makes color corrections on my photos impossible. Anyone else has this problem? You can easily
see it on white or grey background (even in finder windows)

Rick, I'm afraid a couple of weeks is not going to do it. Save yourself Grief & get your money back & wait for the revision to come. Unless you can go into the Apple Store, Open One Up & play & test the iMac for a complete hour before you take it home, then forget it. I feel for all you guys & I feel Lucky & thankful about my situation. Too many Horror stories at this point in time is NOT a good sign.

I'm afraid Apple is not being all together truthful when they say they prescreened it. I don't know what's going on in Shanghai, but a lot of people are not doing their Job. You would think with the economy like it is, that more people would perform their jobs with accuracy & integrity, in order to stay employed. But it seems that is not the case. Oh yea, Btw, I was told mine was hand picked for me. Do I believe that? 🙂

Well, you guys have shed more light on personal diagnostic route. The whole time they were telling me this, I did have this gut feeling about the whole thing.

Oh well. We shall see how it is. One week today since "ordered" and still nothing about it's whereabouts.

Can you check the iMac to see how many hours it's been running? I would like to do this when it comes in.

Thanks for all your help and insight.

So the customer service people seemed to bend over backwards to make sure that I got a replacement - they seemed to be especially concerned about identifying which 'batch' that this 21.5 refurb was a part of. However, what I don't get is since it's a refurb, shouldn't this kind of stuff have been caught during the so-called rigorous testing process?

Anyways, I lugged that mofo to the nearby UPS store this morning and must now play the waiting game. The senior advisor I spoke to claimed that this is a 'rare' problem with the 21.5" iMacs and it'd be 'highly unlikely' the next unit would exhibit the same problem. I'm giving them ONE chance. If the next one is a dud, I'm getting my freaking money back.

Long time users or not, we shouldn't feel the need to treat Apple with kid gloves here.

I guess it's safe to say, Don't Take Anything They say as being truthful. Hearing all this is ******* me off. I told them 2 months ago about the 21.5 Model & they thanked me for making them aware of the fact that there is a problem with the 21.5". So as a token of good faith, they upgraded me to a 27". I was quite Happy. But that 21.5" Line is a flat out Lie! They didn't know! Gimme' A Break! I sent 2 Back & there wer 100's if not thousands of others. It's just a bunch of good Public Relations. When you get off the Phone you get a warm & fuzzy feeling, thinking they are taking care of YOU! That is until you get your next Yellow iLemon. 😟

And why should they check out a Refurb, when they are not even checking their Brand New Product? You mean because it came back & got fixed? It could have been a bad Airport Card. You think they bothered to check the Screen? I think Not!

Well, I'm definitely taking what they say with a huge grain of salt. The first lady I spoke to claimed that I was the first person she had ever heard with a 21.5 yellow screen problem and said that Genius Bars everywhere had been receiving cases of people who mistakenly 'thought' their iMacs looked yellowish.

When I told her about all the forum posts and pictures that exist out there she backed down a LOT and I was able to speak to a senior product specialist who basically admitted that the problem exists.

With regards to testing refurbs - what I'm more concerned about is that these iMacs are actually coming back because of the screen issue and Apple doesn't touch them during the 'refurb' process because they have no way of fixing it. Call me paranoid, but maybe they're simply sending them back out and hoping that the next user won't notice.

Anyways, I still have a window of opportunity to get a refund and I'm seriously considering it. I'm almost 99% sure the next one will have the same issue (and maybe others as well! At least this one was perfect in all other respects)

kos, You see what I'm saying! Everyone tells you something different. How did they convince there customers who "Mistakingly thought their iMacs looked Yellowish", that they weren't. Brainwashing! 3D Glasses. What? It's an absurd Statement. If I were the Manager of the store, I would instruct my Staff on what to say & how to handle ALL customers having a defect that is known globally. I know Retail Stores have morning Meetings. This is not Rocket Science.

I have to agree. I don't think anything is Tested for you, me or Anyone else at this point. I was just very lucky to get one that does not show Yellow in any Apps. But I can easily show ANYONE that my iMac has a Color Conformity issue, just by putting up Grey Bars.

My first post here from my newly installed week 9 27" i7! It's a pretty nice machine. First conclusions: I do not have issues with noise if I lower the brightness of the display. I do not have dead pixels and the iSight doesn't either.

The most important thing for you guys is the grey bar test. I will be doing that shortly, although I expect this issue to be present, but maybe my eyes are fooling myself and maybe I am seeing yellow tints just because I read to much on this forum 😉

I'll post results later on...
