Yellow tinge from bottom to top of the screen, 27" iMac

My 27" is showing a yellow tinge when viewing on the bottom of the screen compared to the top?
This makes color corrections on my photos impossible. Anyone else has this problem? You can easily
see it on white or grey background (even in finder windows)

Just got a week 12 iMac today. I've had 5 iMac so far including this one.
This iMac came from Union City, California. (all the others were from Shanghai)

I don't see any yellow tint. (others were so obviously yellowish) This is the best!

but...

It has dead pixels on iSight and its screen.

Apple refuses to replace so I'm going to get a refund.
I've had enough. Sick and tired of repacking it.

My second one (also week 12) came from Union City, CA also. My first one had yellow tinge plus a gray bar across the bottom. I had the LCD replaced but it also had the same problems. My second one still has both, but the gray bar seems lighter, plus I now have a dead pixel on the screen. I will shoot photos of it today or tomorrow, but I haven't decided which one to keep yet.

Hi Super Lorenz, if I was you, I wouldn't worry believe me, I have the same band on mine also this is very typical on many LCD display, I wouldn't worry about it. The thing with this screen is its enormous view up close and you would notice every bit of flaw.
I have mine since Feb 2 and it has a slight yellow and the greyish band also, but it doesn't bother me at all and I do a lot of photo editing, video editing, and music production with my iMac and it is not a concern, I would be more worry about noise and other mechanical flaws, and if it doesn't have any mechanical flaws I wouldn't worry to much about it.
Enjoy your beast and don't get caught up with this discussion board because you would end up in the circle of not enjoying, your machine.

Hi Brothers and Sisters!

I have a Sin - I bought an iMac.

The story you all are familiar with.

About a month ago we went to a local store and were told that Refurbished Macs are available for a cheaper price and will have all benefits new machines have....and they were right, it was cheaper and had what new Macs had - yellow tinge.

So, a week later first machine arrived. I picked it up from FedEx and brought it home. There was several stuck pixels and the yellow tinge. I grabbed the box and rushed to a local store where I was asked to contact Apple customer support, since this unit was purchased online. I spend 1.5 hour on the phone explaining my problem and was told that there were LCD anomalies, which were normal for this kind of displays. The store was closing and I had to call Customer Support the next day and spent another hour before they agreed to replace my iMac.

So we packed everything, and I brought it to UPS.

In a few days new machine arrived (picked up 12 kg box from FedEx) and it had yellow spots on the bottom of the screen. I phoned Apple again and they agreed to replaced it once again. We packed it and shipped through UPS.

Few days later the 3rd machine arrived - was picked up from FedEx and again, the display had the same problem as the previous one.

I phoned Apple again, spend another hour on the phone and a customer relation agent was assigned to me with known phone extension, etc.

She suggested me to go with a LCD panel replacement. I was concerned that new machine with replaced screen sounded suspicious, but was assured that since it was my third computer, refund would be provided if there were problems. OK! We ordered the part and in a few days my local store representative called and asked to bring iMac for a repair.

Few days later they called and asked me to pick it up. That's what I did, and guess what??? The tinge is still there - now its covering 1/5 of the screen on the left. OK! I phoned Apple Agent, who has been working with me and she asked me to send a picture. One hour later she called me and told that she spoke with engineers and they said that this yellow tinge is within the specs and the known issues with yellow screens are about the whole screen being yellow, not a part of it. WHAT!? Supervisor on the phone. He is saying the same thing, that technical department looked at my pictures and are positive that this is within specs and he maybe, may be able to schedule me for another screen replacement. I said: I want a refund, I want my money back - he says: I can't give you that. - Why? - Because it's been repaired already. - But, I specifically asked if that could be a problem in a future, if I would want a refund. - Well, I don't know much about it, what I can do is look at your situation and call you back this afternoon or evening...

That was 6 hours ago. (3PM EST)

P.S.

On the website, all iMacs presented do not have any yellow spot. It doesn't say anywhere that products may be different from what you see. Product should comply with a certificate issued under their company act and I really don't think, that it says that yellow pee-spots may present.

Here are my corners. Hit me if I'm wrong.

Ilya, that is horrible customer service! I am about to receive my 4th iMac 27" i7 from Shanghai on Wednesday. Imac #1 (i5) purchased at my local Apple Store had yellow tinge (week 6). It also scratched my DVDs (as do all iMacs if you don't pull out the discs with extreme care due to the sharp aluminum slot). Store nicely swapped it out with another week 6(on the scratching issue-they weren't acknowledging the yellow screen issues). I remember the first time I asked about the yellow tinge before I bought my first iMac, I was told by an Apple Store employee that they don't discuss rumors.... LOL. Anyway, iMac #2 had less yellow...it was relegated to the lower right quadrant and not too bad but the computer suffered two black screen hardware issues while in Mail. All black except for a white cursor and had to be put to sleep and woken for this to correct. AppleCare told me to return the second i5 to the store since I had it only about a week. The manager on duty was fairly nasty...told me I would have to pay a 10% restocking fee if I wanted another. I was fairly obstinate and finally he agreed to give me a full refund, even on the software but not in these words told me to take a hike. Actually he said to come back to Apple sometime in the future. I ordered a CTO i7 from Apple directly. It was a week 10 and had an even more yellow screen. The yellow cast covered a larger area but was fairly smooth. As an added note of complication, I used an external HD to transfer data with Time Machine. Curiously, this i7 exhibited one black screen in Mail as well! I called AppleCare and now that the yellow tinge issue was out in the open. I was asked to email a photo of my screen. It was diagnosed as being yellow and I was told as well that my external HD could have carried over something bad from the last i5 to cause the black screen. Also, I received a kernel panics message plus other warnings on my dock. It was agreed that a new replacement would be shipped from Shanghai. Trying to erase my data on iMac #3, with help from AppleCare, an error message stated that my HD failed and therefore I couldn’t wipe my personal data. So there you have it: 3 iMacs all with varying degrees of tinge (no dead pixels though) and two with hardware issues. My fourth will be the last one for me. I hope it arrives with no or minimal yellow tinge and no other issues. I am working on my dying Vaio with a $200 Samsung 23" 16:9 monitor. Doing the yellow tinge test, there is none but the gray bars do have a different cast from the top to the bottom. But hey, it was 200 bucks and not $2700. AppleCare has been outstanding but the retail store experience definitely spotty.

I just recieved my 6th iMac. They promised me that they pre-screened that machine and did some testing on it. I m not sure how they did it, because its a Week 12, but anyways.

There is still yellow tinging in the lower right corner but I m not going to exchange any more.

I took a photo of it and boostet the saturation a little bit:

Here is a picture of iMac number 3, with the same saturation settings:

There is no perfect or ultimate display. Either live with it or get an Eizo or Dell...

Hello Dirksn. Those images look pretty bad to me. I have seen much better. If it was me I would not keep that display notwithstanding the fact that screens have imperfections. But ultimately it is you who must decide...

No they dont. You do realize that I cranked the saturation to +80?

I had 5 others before and the 6th is the best so far. Even number 3 was better than 1,2,4 and 5. Nr. 6 is within the range of the better ones that I ve seen in the forums.

The yellow on the original photo has L AB values of 81 -1 3. The other iMacs had 5-7 in the b channel.
