Yellow tinge from bottom to top of the screen, 27" iMac

My 27" is showing a yellow tinge when viewing on the bottom of the screen compared to the top?
This makes color corrections on my photos impossible. Anyone else has this problem? You can easily
see it on white or grey background (even in finder windows)

I think there is a flaw in this take a picture from the screen with the grey bars process (also know as the Dino-test). At least a flaw if one wants to check if the amount of yellow tinge is 'acceptable'.

The point is, that one doesn't know how much saturation was applied to the photo. As this last example of dirksn shows, if a lot of saturation is applied, the yellow tinge looks much worse.

Increasing the saturation is a good as an aid to detect yellow tinge. Not for judging if a screen is acceptable however.

I totally agree with you.
Taking a photo and boosting the saturation is a good way to show the defect to others.
My week 12 iMac isnt perfect, but the yellow tinge is much less than on the other 5 i had.

The bad thing is that I seem to have the grey band now...

Just to add myself to the line up.

Brand new iMac 27" iMac.
Gray bar about 5 cm up from the bottom. Hardly visible.
Yellow waves, about 3 cm high, from left to right all over bottom of the screen.

Reading this thread and hear people have replaced their displays 5-6 times
I will stick with what I've got. And try to forget about this issue and enjoy
the power of my machine. But I could use some money back from Apple. Gonna give 'em a call and check.

Hi all,
I have had two 27" i7 Imacs on my desk recently and both displayed colour inconsistency - the first was more obviously yellow in the bottom right quarter, the second went from neutral white at the top to a subtle cream at the bottom. Both have been returned for refund.
The 20" Apple Cinema display in front of me, currently connected to my G4 Powerbook, has no such problem. If Apple could get it right five years ago how come it can't happen with the new Imac which is actually being touted as having the 'ultimate display'?

Hello dolphin979,
I agree 100%. I have an old 23" ACD, a 30" ACD, and an old iMac G5. While their display profiles have aged, they are mostly uniform in appearance. I suspect Apple is not oblivious and that the problem has a lot to do with the leading edge technology in the new panels. I believe they pushed the state of the art too quickly into production. They may be able to adjust and improve consistency at the next revision sometime later this year. But we are talking about a period of time equal to six to twelve months after the issue is first recognized and acknowledged before production line changes can be realistically made.

Well, iMac #4 arrived in a brown box with a crushed carton (right corner). Removing the white Apple box, I saw that the iMac box had a 4" gash in the top right corner. To me, this only means that it was dropped. I am on the phone with Apple now figuring out how to resolve this. They are being very nice but at this point in time, I don't want a computer that was dropped in transit. So the good news is that at least I didn't get a yellow screen.

They took my screen yesterday for replacement and now for the wait. I hoping i at least get one where i cant see the yellow when browsing or turning the thing on as 100% it will have the yellow issue

on another note i found something interesting, look at the opening photo from this webpage its a imac...with yellow tinge lol 😉

Folks these are pics from my current iMac. I have calibrated it using the native calibration tools and also up'd the white to about 6680. Thoughts about the Yellow? Anyone see anything here?
