IMAC, Mac OS X (10.5.6)
Extremely frustrating! BUT I had the same success as Pound. My Ever-ready batteries were too short and when I replaced them with longer batteries presto!! Back to normal. I also bought a rechargeable set which I think is a great option and better for the environment (hopefully).
Hi Mona,
I don't think the two are connected in my case and my CS5.5 is working fine.
My wifi seems to be particularly troublesome after the mac wakes up from sleep mode.
My solution is to turn off wi-fi and then turn back on (from the wifi signal icon top right).
It's incredibly annoying but until the issue is recognized by apple, that's about all I can do.
Just to report, it's days later and I'm having no more problems since moving my computer away from plugs and telephone/router.
Suspect that electric field around plugs may have been interferring... perhaps?
Yes, that's what I do, too -- turn it off and on again, all day long. Doesn't even have to be asleep in my case. And in the case of Illustrator and Photoshop and InDesign, they all have to be force-quit before I can use them if they've been left idle for a while. That can't be good, but I don't know what else to do.
Something is definitely up, but I just can't quite figure out what they all have in common. It definitely caught my attention when you mentioned your wifi. My mouse was giving me fits for a while too which is how I ended up on this forum, but ever since my phone's bluetooth earpiece stopped charging properly (and I stopped using it), the mouse has been fine. Coincedence?
Apologies for slipping off-topic a bit. I'm working on the CS5.5 software issue on another (more appropriate) forum and the wifi issue on yet another. But just in case one symptom has to do with another, I've mentioned all three problems here.
The issue for me was evident when I purchased Mobees Magic Charger kit a year ago. Energizer and Duracell always worked for me without a single instance of Connection Loss; only when i used the mobee magic charger pack would the lost connection drop occur at random times. Recently wrote to Mobee (nearly a year after purchasing) and they sent me a new battery charging kit at no charge since it was an issue from day one. Since then, no connection issues anymore. I suspect they tightened the size tolerances since original batches.
Well, what can I say - I wasn't expecting so many issues with MM. Mine is brand new and it loses connectivity couple of times a day ( tried everything sugested, thank you).
I have a 2nd wirelles mouse in my drawer, so everytime MM goes nuts I replace them. 😝
Since the MM is new I'll give it a week from now and then it will be replaced 24/7.
It was pretty though...
My MM was working fine for over a year until I changed to a different brand of battery.
Suddenly, the MM started to lose its connection quite frequently during normal use. This never happend before, so I immediately suspected it had something to do with using a different brand of battery.
Sure enough - upon close examination, I discovered that certain batteries don't seat as snugly into the compartment, leaving just enough space between the batteries and the door for the batteries to shift. As a result the MM would power cycle itself whenever it was subjected to the slightest physical stress, resulting in temporary connection loss of up to 20-30 seconds.
For me, the solution was simple. I used very thick paper, cut it down to size, and made a shim. I placed it on top of the batteries before replacing the battery door. This filled any emply space that would otherwise exist between the batteries and the battery door.
Problem solved. No more disconnects!
I hope this is helpful to others that may be experiencing the same issue.
I have been using my magic mouse without loss of connection since cleaning the contacts, see my post on the 16th Jan 2012.
The mouse was loosing connection several times every hour, since using a chemical cleaner to remove residue from the battery compartment contacts it has not lost contact once, batteries especially cheap ones can leak gases, which I suspect we're coating or attacking the metal of the mouses contacts, I use only well known quality batteries now since cleaning and have had no further problems.
It would be worth your while to try the same process, it may not work with every mouse but it may help a few.
I wanted to add my contribution concerning the disconnects I had been having. It seems my Magic Mouse kept wanting to run away from my iMac. It had its little Bluetooth eyes on my daughter's MacMini in her bedroom. It would disconnect from my iMac at random to try to connect with the little jezebel in the next room! I ended up favoriting both her Magic Mouse and mine to their respective computers. No problems since!
I wanted to clarify that the jezebel in the next room was the MacMini that was trying to connect with my Magic Mouse. After talking to my daughter, she told me she had problems before with her Magic Mouse connecting with my son's MacBook. She had not told me about this before. It appears that favoriting is essential if you have multiple Magic Mouse and Mac setups.
I had the same problem, everytime I tapped the mouse gently on my desk or knocked it some how it would lose connection... sometime even with out knocking it. It seemed like the batteries were loosing there connection at first so I folded paper over and placed it between the batteries and the cover, holding them firmly in place. Haven't lost connection yet.
After doing the "favorites" route and other technical solutions, I tried the Folded Paper Gimmick and I have yet to have a connection loss. Just know that it's winter up here and very cold in my room so I'm not always by my Mac. I'll send a more in-depth update when the snow melts.

Manythanksforthis tip.
Formeit workedwell. She runsandruns and runs...😉
Havea niceevening,
so long ... Franc
I've been experiencing the same issue with my MM too. Becoming a very annoying problem. I went for the simplest solution first as I too noticed than when lifting the mouse up from the desk to clean it, etc., it would lose connection.... so I've placed a piece of card between the batteries to hold them in place more tightly and hey presto - no loss of connection.
Try the simplest options first folks.
try the forendy (Ihope i got that right ) has a very valid point, take some sandpaper 800 grit and buff the contacts in the mouse battery contacts, with fresh batteries, (not some cheap drug store half dead batts).. power down and reboot, and set the bluetooth to discoverable, turn on your mouse, see if your mouse shows up. If yes proceed as normal.
Oh, as amusing aa it was, do not use jumper cables, just lightly buff the contacts to clean off any possible oxidation, do not sand the batteries!
