Magic Mouse Loses Connection

My Magic Mouse keeps losing its connection. Has any one else had this happen to them. I reapplied the update and had gone through the set again but the connection repeatedly is lost. Luckily I still have my wired mouse plugged in or my IMAC would be useless.

IMAC, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

I called Apple because of the power switch of my Magic Mouse. They arranged to exchange it with a new one (I have Applecare). The new mouse arrived today and it does not suffer from power interrupts when I move the switch slightly. So I think my problem is solved, but I will know for sure in a few weeks.

I've had problems with my Magic Mouse after battery changes (just done second one). In the end the thing which got it working again was using a mouse pad. I use the mouse on the pad for a few minutes, then can go back to my usual mouse use environment without problems. This has worked twice for me so far. I have an older USB mouse on standby, showing my lack of confidence with the Magic Mouse.

Helpful topic!
I had also these continous disconnection problems and i've solved placing an aluminium sheet between the + pole and the battery.
A single, more times folded, aluminium sheet. and the i've applied also a bit of folded paper to block from any movement the batteries.

Problem solved, without any .plist or blutooth preferences modify/management/trick.

Before fixing in this way i've found that the batteries were too much free to move.
The alu sheet and the paper assured a good electric connection and move-proof placement of the batteries.

I hope that my experience can help someone with the same problem.

Thanks for this tip. I did notice the batteries had a little too much room. But I didn't think it was enough for the batteries slip out of place and lose electric connection. I simply folded a small piece of tissue and placed it on top of both battery, then put the cover back on so it fit nice and snug. Problem solved. Before this fix, my disconnects only happened 2 or 3 times a week, but so far I've gone 2 weeks and zero disconnects. I do hate that I had to go "ghetto" on a $60 mouse. But hey, it worked.
I also followed another tip and went into the bluetooth settings for the mouse and added it as favorite. That may have helped too.

Maybe apple could ship a replacement battery cover with a rubber coating on the inside which could hold the batteries in place??? Just my 2 cents.
Thanks again RiccardoRics..

I tried the prefs deletion and making the mouse a "favorite" item - no difference. Then I ran across the later posts about mechanical issues. I tried just tapping the mouse gently on the desk, and sure enough - it would disconnect every time. So I cleaned the positive terminals inside the mouse (the little flat recessed ones at the top) with silicone switch lubricant, and ta-da! the problem is gone.

Same thing happening to me. All of a sudden, the Magic Mouse gets unresponsive. Unlike other users have reported, the system doesn't even pop up any message saying connection has been lost. At first, I thought it could be a discharged battery issue. Tried putting in brand new batteries, which was useless. As I don't have any other wired mouse, the only thing I can do is waiting for the bluetooth connection to be reestablished. Sometimes, it can take more than 5 minutes. Really annoying and Apple needs to release a correction as soon as possible.

Okay....

The problem IS the batteries.

They are rolling around in the mouse. Some
solutions have been to stick a small piece of
foil in there to secure them.

I know it's the batteries because I just bought
the Mobee Magic Charger. It consists of a
battery pack that securely fits inside the mouse.
Now I have absolutely no disconnects. This tells
me my hunch about the batteries being the source
of the problem is correct.

I had the same problem and thought my mouse was bad.

The fix that worked for me was to disable the Power Saver options.

System Preferences, Energy Saver and set the computer to Never Sleep. I have an iMac that is always plugged in so I decided this was OK for me. I do have the Display Sleep and the other checkmarks checked.

I know this isn't perfect, but it worked for me (after doing all the other stuff people recommended didn't permanently work). I would have put a screenshot on my post...but I don't know how.

Good Luck
