The folder "iTunes" cannot be found or created, and is required
the error message goes on to say: The default location for this folder is inside the "Music" folder. FYI, my music folder is empty. I hve several folders labeled "iTunes" located in 1. ~/Library/iTunes, 2. HD/Library/documentation/applications/iTunes, and 3. HD/Library/documentation/iTunes.
The Music folders is located in: user/Music
The iTunes version is 9.0.2
Prior to very recently, I had no problem with the iTunes application. It just all of a sudden gave the message: The folder "iTunes" cannot be found or created, and is required....
i would do a spotlight search for some of the files that you know were in that library, and if you can find them, see if you can follow the file path to where it's stored.
I did a folder search. found itunes folder in: 1. user/library/itunes, 2. HD/library/documentation/applications/itunes, and 3. HD library/ documentaiton/itunes. tried to get one of the itunes folders into music as the error message stated. no luck. I still get the same original error message. All other applications appear to work properly. I'm just having problems with itunes.
Try importing music to itunes (click "file" then "add folder to library") If this doesnt work uninstall and reinstall itunes from control panel. Then the folder will be back where it should be. Go into itunes and click EDIT then PREFERENCES then ADVANCED (topright tab) then check the box that says copy files to itunes folder. This way when you import them as described above you will have a copy in your itunes folder and can delete the other copy so your music is organised in one place.
itunes won't even load because it can't find the folder in music so I can't do the import suggestion. also, how do I "uninstall" itunes on a Mac; or, where is the "control panel" on a Mac? the only control panel I know of is in/on windows. I'd sure like to update my ipod.
I followed directions above and completely removed and re-installed itunes. I still get the same error message: "iTunes" cannot be found or created, and is required. the default location for this folder is inside the "Music" folder. How do I get the iTunes folder inside the music folder so the whole thing begins to work?
Sounds like a permissions issue with your
Music folder.
Open a Finder window. Right click the
Music folder in your home folder and *Get info*.
Go to the bottom and make sure you have full Read/Write permissions to the folder and click *Apply to enclosed items*.
Still doesn't work. under information for the "Music" folder the permissions are" Owner = me/access = read and write, the group was "unknown" changed to adm/access read and write, others = read and write. clicked "applied" button and received the error code: The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "music" could not be read or written (error code -36).
Note, there appears to be NOTHING in the "music" folder and I can't seem to place anything in it.
ran disk utility, repair permissions - the mssg said "stopped by user" (I didn't stop the repair) the msssg went on to say 1. determining correct permissions 2. privileges have been partially verified or repaired on the HD 3. permission verification complete.
Restart - ran permission repair again - repair complete - permissions verified and repaired - no error messages.
Restart: click verify disk - after the statement "checking the catalog file" in red 1. "invalid catalog record type" (I don't know what this means) and 2. "the volume macintosh HD needs to be repaired"
then "1HFS volume checked then again in red "volume needs repair"
then an error message droppped down "Disk utility stopped verifying Macintosh HD because the following error was encountered - The underlying task reported failure on exit.
Don't verify. Kind of a waste of time. If it finds a problem you need to then run Repair so just run Repair.
You cannot repair the disk you are booted fom.
You need to boot from yoru System install disc. Instert it, restart and hold the
C key to boot from the System Install DVD.
That's exactly what I did. When repairing the disk HD, I received the messages "checking catalog file." then in red 1. "invalid catalog record type", and 2. "volume check failed." The drop down error message said: "the underlying task reported failure on exit"
