Switching from hp to MAC! wondering about processor speeds

I currently am using an HP with a processor speed of 2.20 GHz. i am looking to buy the $1199.99 MacBook Pro (processor speed 2.26). Will that extra .06 GHz do alot for me as far as overall speed of the laptop. Or are MAC's just overall faster than HP's??
thanks

Assuming that the processors are the same model and the only difference is the clock speed, you would never notice, probably even with benchmark testing, a difference of only .06 GHz.

Or are MAC's just overall faster than HP's??

The Intel-based Macs have often rated higher in hardware performance than equivalent models from other manufacturers (tested by booting Windows on the Mac). Whether this would be the case for you will depend on a number of factors, so we can't make a blanket statement as to whether a new Mac would perform better than your old HP. There are just too many variables involved. Unless you're a heavy gamer, though, I doubt you'll be displeased with the performance of a MacBook.

More information about your HP might help someone offer more specific opinions, but only if you also say more about how you use your system and what software you run, or intend to run. Without full information it's going to be difficult for anyone to offer much in the way of advice. It's also probably not terribly practical to get into a long discussion about relative performance here; you might want to try a local Apple user's group, if there's one in your area, so that you can really get into the "ifs and buts" about all the various possibilities.

Regards.

The actual real-world performance of this HP depends on a lot more things than just processor speed. For example, how old is the HP? What processor sticker does it have on it? If that 2.2Ghz processor is a single-core Pentium 4 processor (common on PCs 3 or so years ago) then that HP is likely dog-slow compared to a dual-core 2.26Ghz modern Macbook. But if the HP is brand new and the 2.2Ghz processor is the same family (Core 2 Duo) as the Macbook, then they are likely very similar in speed.

The other thing to consider is OS X vs. Windows. Macs of the same processor speed have always seemed a little faster than Windows machines (at least to me) and Snow Leopard makes that gap wider. Windows 7 and Vista are both so resource-intensive that a 2.2Ghz Mac is likely to feel faster than a 2.2Ghz PC. Especially if they both only have 2GB of RAM.

What do you intend to use the machine for?
